Rear Seat Belts
MJM444 replied to SteveLS400's topic in LS 400 / Lexus LS 430 / Lexus LS 460 / Lexus 600h / Lexus 500h Club
Hi The problem is that there's no slack to add. When I tested it, I had to pull my tummy in to take the pressure off the clasp sufficient to release it. Comments appreciated fella's Steve Hi Steve If all else fails you can purchase a small plastic gadget which can be put on the belt where it enters to retract and the gadget has a locking mechasism after adjusting the belt to a comfortable fit to stop it retracting further I used them when taking elderly patients to the hospital who found the tightness of the belts restrictive. I had them for years so I dont know where they were purchased but I know they were less than a £1 each Yours MJM444 -

Incidentally my quote above was fully comprehensive, courtesy car inc on accident and No Claim Bonus protected -
I've just renewed my insurance for the next twelve months and the following may be of interest:- I used the Confused, com site and RAC came up the cheapest and included free RAC membership for 12 months and quoted £287.00 which I felt was very good - in filling in the details I was requested to state if I was a RAC member already - I stated yes as I am a RAC affiliated member because I am a member of LEXUS assistance - I was then asked to fill in my RAC membership No. on the application form for the insurance but could not comply so the application kept coming up error - so I phoned the RAC help line explained the situation and on taking details of my LEXUS assistance membership quoted me £241.00 over the phone which I naturally accepted. For the record my vehicle is 1998 MkIV - Full NCB - age 72 - March Cambs PE15 post code. Garaged and £500 excess Private and pleasure only i.e. retired

Could be tricky to get LS430 parts to fit an LS400, although in the UK the 1998 onwards LS400's came with HID as standard so might be easier to pursue getting parts from a MKIV LS400 in the first place. I might be an ignoramus but what does HID stand for as I have a 1998 MKIV LS400 and don't recall the initials

120k Cam Belt Change
MJM444 replied to ZXH's topic in LS 400 / Lexus LS 430 / Lexus LS 460 / Lexus 600h / Lexus 500h Club
Had mine done at 126000 miles a couple of months ago including an "A" service at Lexus Hull on my 98 LS400 - total bill came to £797 inc vat Nick Hi Would just like to repeat a post posted by me August 2006 re:- Cam Belt Change "Just to say I was well pleased with Roy' Motors in Norwich I've had the Timing Belt change "B" Service, Iridium Spark Plugs renewed, front and rear Brake Pads which were found to need renewing on inspection - Total cost £773.00 inc VAT also a loan car for the day only a Toyota Carina but it made me appreciate the LS400 even more - as a matter of interest their hourly rate of 8 hours labour was quoted at £45.00 per hour. I can't say the car was running any better after the service because it seems perfect prior to the visit to Roys - I estimate if I had gone to a franchised dealer I would have been looking at a bill for £1300 - £1400 plus any other bits and pieces they may have found as extras." -

Hi I don't understand I've completely disconnected my battery on my 1998 Mk IV on a couple of occasions having to replace it twice as the original replacement was duff after 10 months and went flat with zero volts and I've never had any problems with the radio sat nav etc everything works as normal on re-connection -

I had the same problem - purchased an OLDHAM Battery failed after 18 months (6000 miles) but obtained a replacement no trouble at all on production of original receipt - incidentally cost of original battery was £54.00 inc. This was from a local Tyre Battery agent - Mk IV LS400 1998 -
Fuel Consumption
MJM444 replied to BigJon's topic in LS 400 / Lexus LS 430 / Lexus LS 460 / Lexus 600h / Lexus 500h Club
Hi Will agree about the fuel consumption regularly get 30 mpg on a long run Two weeks ago on a run back from Bournemouth - 212 miles - via M27/M3/M25/A1 rural roads for the last 20 miles to Christhurch in Cambridgeshire (on the Norfolk border) recorded 32.1 mpg i.e. kept to the 70mph speed limit and no holdups - was able to use the cruise control probably 50% of the journey My vehicle is a 1998 MkIV LS400 - 50,000 mileage -
Hi Glad you were happy with your service from Lexus Hull I was even happier still with my recent service from Roys in Norwich:- Cambelt Change "B" Service - i.e. the big one New Iridium Spark plugs Brakes - new Pads Total cost £774.00 inc VAT Drives like a dream I did have to put up with a clacked out Carina as a loan car - but it was no problem

Hi Thanks for the info have booked into Roys inc. courtesy car - quoted less than half price than Lexus Cambridge saving over £500.00 will give an update after the deed is none How much were you quoted at Lexus Cambridge? We've just had ours done on a 2000 Mkiv at Ipswich for 380.00 Hi I was quoted £445 I'm not sure if this is + VAT 18months ago but decided against it the vehicle had only done 40,000 - 7 years old (Cost me £225 for "A" service) - Now at 49,000miles and 8 1/2 years old decided not to chance it any more Roys quoted prices are £195 cam belt change £220 "B" Service £135 renew plugs excl. i.e. all plus VAT The only quote I got this year I did'nt go any further down the line was £425 for a B Service from Lexus Cambridge I assume this would be + VAT HI there Just to say I was well pleased with Roy' Motors in Norwich I've had the Timing Belt change "B" Service, Iridium Spark Plugs renewed, front and rear Brake Pads which were found to need renewing on inspection - Total cost £773.00 inc VAT also a loan car for the day only a Toyota Carina but it made me appreciate the LS400 even more - as a matter of interest their hourly rate of 8 hours labour was quoted at £45.00 per hour. Hi I have a 1998 LS400 MkIV - 49000 miles only but feel I should have a Cam Belt change also requires a B service - I will get quotes from 2 local franchises i.e Norwich and Cambridge and hope to take advantage of my Gold membership - but can any member recommend a non franchised Lexus specialist in East Anglia for comparison - I live near Wisbech Cambs Also recommend a body shop - a minor shunt :o on the drivers door needs attention.

New Battery For Ls400
MJM444 replied to carlo's topic in LS 400 / Lexus LS 430 / Lexus LS 460 / Lexus 600h / Lexus 500h Club
Hi I purchased an Oldham recommended Battery from my Local tyre dealer in MARCH Cambridgeshire for my 1998 Mk iV LS 400 12 months ago for £52 inc VAT also including fitting and checking old one - no problems since. -
I got it on E.Bay from Hong Kong unfortunately did not keep the receipt but it was no more than £10.00 inc postage I would think it was similar to the one shown in above post 7 on E.Bay The purchasd motif was of quite acceptable quality and chrome plated. I am hoping that Terry will post my pictures showing the bonnet motif on my vehicle on the Site as I was unable to fathom out the way to attach a picture to my post Cheers Happy Hunting

Well you might be safe from Hooligans in Cumbria? (or is that wishful thinking?) ← I purchased one of these some time ago and I was very pleased with it it was in metal and quite good chrome plate - I have had two MOTs with it in place and have had no comment I could show you photos if I knew how to post pictures on the site but I am a bit of a novice perhaps someone could instruct me. ← Click on add reply. Then go to the box that say's browse, click on that and then find yout photos i.e. "your pictures" or "your documents" click on the pic you want to post then you will come back to here.Click on "add this attatchmet". It will then open up and you click on "add this in post" Done. Sounds a bit tricky but you will get the hang of it. If not then e-mail them to me and I will post them for you. Terry ← Sorry Terry could not find any browser window - also when I attempted to E mail you was told not permitted Sorry to be such a nerd Yours MJM 444

I had this problem recently i.e. the brake dashboard light staying on and although it is not mentioned in the drivers manual my problem was a dodgy stop light bulb and a new bulb solved the problem. My vehicle is a a MK IV LS400 -
