Sunroof Front Drains Blocked :( Rx300 2005

Recommended Posts

  • 2 years later...

I have 2008 RX400h and found the front footwell carpet wet problem caused by the overflow of drain water from sunroof drain tubes that end inside a cavity inside the body near your feet. There is a hole from this into the passenger compartment, hidden behind the plastic foot scuff guard ahead of the doors.  If filled high enough , water overflows into carpet area. This body cavity also has a round plastic drain fitting at bottom, into the bottom rocker cover where common slit drains allow water out to exterior. THE BLACK PLASTIC DRAIN FITTING BECOMES BLOCKED WITH DIRT AND DEBRIS (coming from near hood hinges?) and needs to be cleared to restore oroper drain flow. The drain fitting is accessible behind the wheel well plastic liner by removing the screws (T27 bit) in that area and removing round plastic plug. Then work a test tube brush (1/2-3/4” dia.) up into the bottom of fitting - reach in with finger first to help locate it. Work brush up and down to clear fitting then test drainage,  with water at sunroof and work brush a bit- this may help flush dirt thru fitting. 4F82A99F-7094-43C6-BB33-B7141A43165C.thumb.jpeg.db81916d6254278627fc2b33e3235d3e.jpegView inside wheel well plug hole with brush up into drain fitting
