Alternator Current and voltage

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I have slight problem, as i was changing the Battery for my Lexus IS220d (2012) the electrician told me that my alternator is not probably working good, and it is filling the Battery lower than it should. So my question is, do you have some reliable informations regarding the Voltage and Amps that the good alternator on this model should give.

As I still have the varenty I would like to replace it, but I need to know the exact voltage and Amps, becouse our service in Croacia is always looking to save money for them...

Hopefully you will have some good infos.

best regards

Hope this helps: http://tinyurl.com/gsqduoc

When the engine is fast idling and everything connected up normally you should see a voltage measured at the Battery terminals of about 14 to 14.2 volts

Be careful - note that normal home-type ammeters can't handle anything like the current specified - even 10amps.

Also do not disconnect the Battery with the engine running - even for an instant

Tnx Johnatg,

It helps in a way of checking my voltage and current, but I can not find exect voltage it should be filling the Battery.

But now i got something, called toyota dealer and they said optimal voltage would be 14,05V.

So my is lower than this... and need to check if they will replace it
