corrosion on suspension mounts

Recommended Posts

Just having a good look over the car I have bought recently and removed the covers in the engine bay. As well as a lot of sand as the previous owner took it on to building sites, there's some corrosion on top of the suspension mounts. As the car is 10 years old I'm not too worried but is this a common thing?

I'm going to cleaning up properly and treat with some anti rust paint shortly.

Also the front of some of the pulley cogs are a bit corroded. Doubt it's something I can fix easily but probably won't matter. I guess it's just salt corrosion over time?

I wouldn't worry too much about any of that. Rather than use anti-corrosion paint (which probably won't work long term) I'd paint anything rusty in sight (including the pulley faces) with Waxoyl or Dinitrol. They are waxy fluids and work well to kill existing corrosion and protect in future. You can always repeat the application without any messy stripping. It doesn't harm belts, wiring or hoses or anything.

And you can kill the messy white deposits on alloy (see lower middle of last pic) with WD40 or similar. Just spray now and again.
