Boot/Trunk will not Open - IS300h

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

My 2016 IS300h has a strange issue with the boot/trunk locking mechanism; nearly two years after purchase, the boot would occasionally not close/lock. I was caught off guard once or twice. One time I came out to the car in the driveway in the morning and the boot was slightly open, another time, I struggled to lock the boot while rushing to catch a flight. When I reported all this to the dealer, they couldn't find anything wrong with the mechanism. Of course, this was happening just as the warranty was about to expire. If the problem reoccurred, I found a workaround by pressing the release button on the lid itself once or twice, and it closed/locked.

I parked the car for a week over Easter, and now the boot will not open at all. I tried using the glove box's secret override button, but it didn't work. I now have to manually open the boot with the small key. Every time you need to open the boot, you almost have to get down on your knees to find the keyhole. Painful!!

Sorry for the lengthy post, but has this ever happened to any IS mk3 owners on this forum? The car is due for service in June and will be visiting the dealer, I assume the locking mechanism will need to be replaced?

Any suggestions are welcome! :-)
