Dongar Technologies Adaptor for Dashcam.

Hi folks,

The other week I fitted one of these devices to my wife's Kia EV6. Not exaggerating, it took me less than two minutes to fit, and involved sliding down the plastic cover over the connector behind the auto-dipping interior mirror, unplugging this connector & fitting the adaptor between the plug & socket. This draws power when the ignition's turned on, sends it to the USB socket that's part of the adaptor, & works a treat. Dongar supply a short length of USB cable, two different types to suit most dashcams. It was a bit fiddly jamming the additional plug & cables behind the cover, but a damn sight easier than grovelling around in fuseboxes & routing cabling.

Being encouraged by this, I ordered another one for my Lexus LC 500, which I fitted today. The correct version is the "10-pin Type B For Select Toyota/Lexus Vehicles", which fits fine. You have to slide down the plastic cover over the connector behind the interior mirror, then lever the cover to the side. This cover's actually in two pieces, and when you lever it, it releases with a bit of a bang! Thankfully no damage done...I used one of those plastic trim levers, which did the job. The additional plug can be jammed up behind the cover & headlining, where it's invisible to anyone sitting in the car.

 

Dongar Technologies are in the USA, but they supplied both these adaptors within ten days, so it's no hassle at all. The company couldn't have been more helpful, and responded almost instantly to a question I had about the fitment.

This is interesting as I was thinking of getting a BlackVue dask cam fitted front and rear to my incoming LC500h. Is it difficult to find a suitabkle 12V rail to power the cam otherwise then?
