Handbrake dash light issue

Recommended Posts

There doesn't seem to be much online that I can find regarding why the handbrake light stays on the dash display when the handbrake is off.

Earlier this week I adjusted slightly the adjuster at the end of the cable at the foot pedal. That seemed to work for a few days but now the light stays on.

There seems to be a sensor/switch somewhere near the handbrake foot lever but I'm blowed if I can find where it's located or availability here in England.

I serviced the rear brake sliders and whilst at it tried to locate the handbrake shoes adjuster. Couldn't locate it thru the hole in the disc even rotating the disc 360 with a torch shinning through. With the wheel on rotating it with handbrake off and not in park the resistance it a little stiffer than I'd like.

I'm going to remove the rear wheels and discs to investigate what's going on where the brake shoes are. Also adjust at the foot lever side but go the opposite way.

Question is however does anyone know the location of the sensor at the handbrake lever end?

The parking brake switch is incorporated into the parking brake pedal. The actual switch is not shown in the workshop manual. There's just this reference to testing it:

Here's a diagram of the parking brake adjustment mechanism - may help:
