Parking senor issue

Recommended Posts

Hi All! I recently purchased a 2005 IS250 that has parking sensors. They seem to be extremely sensitive and there is no button that I can see to mute this or adjust. I cant see any issues with the bodywork that can cause this issue - there is a tiny chip on one of the sensors but I am not sure if this could be the cause or not? ( I can add pics shortly)

I know some models have the 'radar' display to show but my model doesn't. It seems to happen/beep when both stationary and moving.

I guess my query is - is there a button/switch to mute this that I am missing? Or if not, how simple/expensive is it to replace the chipped senor or add in a button to be able to mute etc?

Appreciate any and all advice!

Of course it could be a sensor detecting vehicle or pedestrian movement near the car.

However, in a cluster next to the steering wheel, you may have a button with a large P on it, which appears to be transmitting to a small cone!  This switches the parking assist sensor system on and off.

Personally, I find the system very useful.  Considering the age of the car, you may well find one or more of the sensors have corroded so they operate erratically.

I expect a good auto electrician can check the sensors to see if this is the case.

HI Len,

Thanks for the reply! There is definitely no 'P' switch - this is an older car without the radar sensor screen. I have spoken to an auto electrician but struggling to get one to come and fix the issue. I have ordered a replacement sensor to see if that can solve the issue - Do you happen to have a link to a thread that assists in changing these sensors or is it something better left to a garage to attempt?
