Parking sensors not working

Recommended Posts

Hi folks
Parking sensors didn't work since I bought this car few months back. These are factory fitted in my Advance model.
Yesterday got it checked with an electrician and his computer said stays 'open' to all except front two centre ones which had status 'freeze'.
He suggested we can guess that these two had different status so these are the faulty ones.
Questions to you:
1. Did anyone else experienced this issue and how they got around it?
2. Is it common for these two front centre ones to fail as they get all the hit from front?
3. Where to buy? Lexus is quoting over £100 each
4. Is it an easy job to change it ourselves or does it need specialist electrician?
5. Does it need recoding/reset using a specialist diagnostic machine after replacing with new sensors?
Thanks for your help as always!

As you had an electrician check the system this is probably a daft question but I'll ask it anyway - did you check that the system is switched on - there is a push switch on the right hand side of the dashboard. When switched on there is a light on the dash display that looks like a tree. Seems strange all sensors, front and rear, have failed.

Hi wharfhouse

Yes, the button is switched on that's when this error comes up. When I switch it off then there is no error on dash and sensors don't work either way. Thanks

Ah OK - sorry in that case I can't offer any other help - mine have always worked as expected (except when they got switched off by mistake once !). Hope someone else might have some ideas.

I had this issue earlier in the year and ended up replacing the sensor myself. If it’s the front two in the grille it’s not too hard.

A good OBD dongle connected to your phone via Bluetooth with a free app will help you pinpoint which sensor it is. There’s a different error code for each sensor

Swapping a known working one on your car (all sensors are the same on the car), clearing OBD errors with the app, then seeing if it flags again will pinpoint if it’s a wiring issue or just a duff sensor.
