I'm looking to buy a 96 model and one that I have seen has the ABS light on the dash. The chap says it has been on for the past 2 years. The manual I have says if the light is on, there is a fault somewhere in the ABS system and the ABS will be turned off, consult your dealer.

Has anybody had any experience of this sort of thing. Is it likely to be a major problem or should I stay away from the car?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Simon,

I personally would take what the seller says with a pinch of salt, or inspect the car in depth.

If the ABS light has been on for 2 years then the car must have had dubious MOT tests recently as evidence of this light would be an immediate failure item.

In the past I have rectified such a problem on a Celica turbo by careful pressure washing off the build up of mud and crud from the segmented rotor adjacent to the ABS sensors.

Take your time when selecting a LS400 there are plenty of well maintained good cars out there.

Regards,

Chris Vince

Thanks Chris, I viewed the car but infact it car had all sort of problems, it had been repaired badly, screews missing, Battery not clamped down, hedlights recessed by 1 cm, overall it was just poor, so walked away. Yup, plenty about and not in a rush so will keep looking. Simon.
