Power Steering

Hi all,

Thanks a lot for all your help in my previous issue with the blue smoke - it appears to be totally fixed now!

I alluded to another issue with my power steering in my previous thread. Basically, it doesn't appear to be functioning... at all. Occasionally it loosens up, but never quite fixing itself.

I've already done a complete flush for the power steering system. I've also done some thorough searches on all Soarer related forums and havn't quite found any issues remotely similar (Most refer to the V8 Power steering leak resulting in the alternator's death). However, someone told me though that the solenoid which stiffens the power steering during highway driving could possibly be jammed down.

Aside from using up 6 litres of Dexron III, the power steering flush just cleaned up the dark colour (the previous power steering fluid was filthy) but didn't actually solve anything. I was looking at the V8 Power Steering pump issue fix (the dreaded death of the alternator and all that) but havn't considered it just yet, since the pump appears to be working fine (as I learned when flushing the power steering unit). I'm completely puzzled as to what the issue is. Could the use of Dexron III fluid be the cause?

Issue fixed - had a power steering guy look at it and found that the actual power steering control cable was DISCONNECTED from the rack completely. ***** previous owners.
