Buying An Aristo - What To Look Out For?

Hi folks. Another new member. I'm an ex Soarer owner 2.5 Twin Turbo manual box, imported in the mid nineties and run pretty much standard spec until I sold if after PC Plod caught me going a little too fast.

I'm looking at an Aristo for sale near Aberdeen and wondered if anyone could tell me what I should look out for in terms of problems or known faults.

Having briefly sat in the car at the weekend it started and ran fine, but ws right at the back of the lot so I've arranged to drive it next weekend.

The machine is listed as a 1999 Aristo Vertex EDT V300 twin turbo. Registration is T999 something. It's done 34k miles and appears to be unmodified.

Any advice welcome, or ideas about price. I can't see any others for sale in any of the usual places so can't easily benchmark the price the garage is looking for.

Cheers folks

Gary,

I know the car your talking about. Its up for £18.5k which is WAY over the mark.

I paid less than half that for my Vertex which I picked up earlier this month.

I've spoke to the dealer before, he said he'd take £14k for it. If you like it I'd go with less than that in pound notes and see if he bites.

It took me 2 years to get a black Vertex for proper money, if your not willing to wait, get this one but it'll cost you!

Theres not a lot that goes wrong with them - ARS (Active Rear Steering) can go which is a costly job, check for high speed vibrations, warped discs. These cars are hard on tyres, brakes, suspension etc. Have a look in GS300 for a buyers guide on the rest of the car.

I'd check it over for you but its really far from me. Yoshi/Mark is in Glasgow I think so he might be willing to take a look at it for you.

Gaz.

Thanks guys for the responses. I'm getting scared off by all the talk of blown turbos on the last few posts, though! Is this a regular problem or does it tend to happen with modded cars?

Its more of a time thing Gary. I'd expect a low mileage engine like this one to last for quite some time! Most of our Supra customer that have blown turbos tend to go when the car is 10 years old or well over 100k miles...

Regards,

Gaz.
