Advice On Buying 2000 Or 2001 Rx 300se

Hi all

first post here, so please be gentle :)

Can anyone please tell me what to look out for when buying a 2000 or 2001 RX 300SE? - I have searched the archives.

I would advice going to a main dealer may be a little more expensive but you do get a 1 yr warrantee and the car should be up to Lexus standards as they are checked out by them before resale. Obviously a full service history is a must.

Would suggest going onto the main lexus web site- www.Lexus.co.uk- and go to the used car section. Have a look at prices, milage etc. it may well pay to go a dealer out of town if the car on offer is better priced.

I had a MK 1 RX300 SE ok it was from new but a 2001 model and had no problems with it , only pt/ex it for the MK2 RX 300 SE-L after having one as a loan car and fell in love with the newer version.

Do try to get one with SAT NAV may be on CD against the latest DVD version but well worth it. Apart from that it is only a matter of personal choice as to colour, etc but once you have one I doubt if you will ever go for another make. Apart from buying one I have found the backup ie service, etc is the best of any make at least with the local dealer near me here in the West Midlands.

I am a recent convert to the Rx, mine being a high mileage (100k) 2002 SE model.

It is the first Japanese car that I have owned (and I have had a lot!) and is BY FAR the best yet! Nothing seems to ever go wrong, the servicing seems to be good value (certainly compared to my Land-Rover experiences) and the after care is second to none.

This forum pre-warned me of the weaknesses such as the alloy wheel corrosion & the flimsey cup holders......... but its a small price to pay!

I am now a Jap-Car convert and now considering replacing it only with the new Rx or a Nissan Murano.
