Try a GS? I have owned 6 LS400s from Mk1 to Mk4 -I once tried a GS - what a disappointment it just felt like a big Toyota. I commented on this to my local Lexus dealer whose reply was - 'they are not in the same class - you can see where the extra £20k ( when new) goes' - as for checking one - do check the rear springs are not broken at the very top - check the front discs for grab - check the lower front suspension joints - listen at the back ( bulkhead) of the engine for exhaust leaks - check when the timing belts was last changed (expensive) - as said before check all dash displays. If the cd changer is in the boot check it works ok ( water ingress). Try to buy under 150k mls as they do get 'loose' over that. Finally there are some very rough ones out there. Worth checking the auctions say BCA - Good luck.
