Question On Driving On The Continent

Recommended Posts

Has anyone taken an RX SE-L outside blighty and if so is there a switch on the swivelly headlights to save me the bother of sticking nasty bits of plastic on the headlights.

P.S. I'm sure the answer to this is RTFM, but I'm too lazy !

Try the Black button next to the boot release.

Black button only disables the swivel bit so headlamps fixed. Don't think this does what you want, namely adjust it for driuving on other side of road. BMW used to have a switch inside for Continental driving on cars with Xenon headlamps...never heard of this (or read it in manual) in the RX....

I think you have to disable the swively function of the lights and then stick a beam converter onto the front lens.

Thats what I did when I drove mine in France last year and all seemed well, but I was still flashed by cars coming the other way as beam converters don't seem to do very much IMHO.

Beam converters don't work on Xenon headlight, no point putting them on.

I have driven several times in the UK with my continental RX and have NEVER been flashed by other cars.

That explains why they didn't work to well then.

Thanx for the info.

Just put them on the mini aswell during my trip to Le Mans and I kept getting flashed then as well. The mini has Xenon lights as well.

At least having them stuck on the lens will keep the old bill happy if you should be stopped.

You may be right, trying to explain could be complicated...

See below for answer from Lexus UK. There is no need to do anything.

Thank you for your further email.

I can confirm that the HID (High Intensity Discharge) headlamps on the RX 350 do not need to be
converted for travel on the continent. The set up of the headlamp is such that the light shines in a horizontal
flat beam which has no kick up and as such is not dazzling to drivers of oncoming cars.

As you have suggested, we would recommend that the Intelligent Adaptive Front-lighting
System (I-AFS) is switched off when travelling on the continent.

Yours sincerely
