Intermitent Problems Starting Soarer 2.5tt (1992)

Hi,

Wondering if anyone else has come across this problem;

on occassion when go to start car, it starts and revs to 1000 initially then just sort of shudders and revs drops and it cuts out, when this happens, giving throttle or anything doesn't prevent it.

Usually it will start on next attempt but sometimes takes 3 or 4 attempts.

No real pattern to it except it rarely happens first thing in morning or after work, more usually if car has only been stopped for 5 or 10minutes!

Have changed plugs & Battery, but hard to diagnose until it fails completely but this may never happen as these cars don't seem to give up !

Anyone seen anything similar before or any suggestions please, thanks

mine sometimes does something similar when the engines hot if youve just been stopped for a couple of mins, i just hold the revs at 1200rpm, or so for a few secs an hold it a bit as pulling away an its fine, not sure what causes it tho, if its bad, could be the fuel ecu?

Hi, thanks Steve, tried that over last couple days when happened but doesn't work unfortunately, any amount of throttle makes no difference, it just takes several restarts waiting a few minutes inbetween!

The Fuel ECU, could that be checked by computer I suppose ?

Anyone else experienced this or any ideas, thank you.

I'm told that most ignition probs on TTs are because of knacked coils. Usually diagnosable by visible cracks in them.
