New Member With A Few Questions

Recommended Posts

Hi to all u Ls400 owners.

I am a bit of a LS400 virgin and recently purchased a P plate one with apparently a full Lexus Service history. The car has done 117,000 andon checking with the lexus dealer where it had been serviced to my horror I found it had never had it's timing belt changed, though otherwise had been serviced.I have been quoted £233 for a new belt fitted is this about the correct price. The only other problems with the car are the aerial which does not fully retract and a little wear to the drivers arm rest which I would like to get treated.I love the car but would appreciate a little guidance from the seasoned owners out there,

thanks :

Welcome! Congrats on purchasing one of the best cars ever made!!!

£223 is a good price for the cambelt. I think I paid £300 at a Lexus dealer a few years ago. Might be an idea to change out the tensioner and idler pulleys whilst this is being done. Other members might be able to provide more technical input than me.

Is the aerial very dirty? Sometimes, try cleaning with a good metal polish?

Hmmm, I had a J reg with 170k and the arm rest was not showing much wear to be honest. Hope this doesn't mean yours had been clocked???

Thanks Maneesh,

The leather and carpets are otherwise perfect and I have all the old MOT's so I don't think it has been clocked.I could be wrong though!.The aerial does not seem that dirty,I have tried WD 40 with without success,so I will try some metal polish as it is only the last inch or so that it does not retract.I will go ahead with the cambelt as it does seem like a reasonable price.Does anyone have any advice on who I should use or what I should use to reconilise the leather,

thanks Ian

the aerial does not go all the way up on fm but does on long wave so try hiting the lw button to see if goes up the last bit and my mk3 is showing a bit of use on the arm rest and the steering wheel (110k) but it just looks bad just shows its been used

Unless the aerial stops very short on FM don't worry, they are designed like this, they sense the incoming signal and self reguilate their length to ensure best reception.

Chris Vince

Thanks Chris,

the technology is a little beyond my previous Mondeo,

Ian
