Hey guys wodering if you could help me out here -

My lpg today started palying up, it would ilde roughly, i.e it would go down to 500rpm or a lil below that and then jump up to 750-1000 and be ok for a bit and then go down again but when on petrol it fine no problem at all..

Even driving on the motorway today on lpg when i put my foot down to overtake it would not move and then a burst of energy would happen and it will go faster and agin on petrol its fine not a problem..

Any ideas what it could be..................before I go to an lpg mechanic

Sounds like a fuel starvation problem to me

As it is good on petrol, you can say it doesn't seem to be ignition or petrol problem

So looking at the LPG system have you got a leak, or a crimped hose ?

Is there a gauze strainer type filter in the LPG system, sometimes if you have an iffy dirty refill then the gauze can get covered in a type of gell which basically closes the holes in the gauze, a quick depress of the pedal will cause an initial revs rise then die as the pressure to the engine drops, after a few seconds (which seems like years) the pressure will build up again and surge and rev again

Then it gets into a cycle of pressure raise - surge pressure drop - die pressure raise - surge

Yes it sounds pretty much like that takes a few second to build up pressure.. I will have to go and get it serviced me thinks as i dont have a clue how these systems work....

I been driving it for 2 days now and nothings wrong with it? how strange its fine........

I have noticed that it tends to happen when I normally go for a long drive more than 50 miles at high speeds, as the last 2 time its only happend after I came back from manchester and watford both long drives and highish speeds.....

Usuf_X,

I have the same problem on my IS200 only tends to do it after a long trip never local or on petrol. Has far has spark plug they are the same has your standard one, nothing diff. I bought mine from eBay thanks to LOC for the links (imported from USA - creative performance IK20 i think) but not sure about the GS version. Once i replaced the plug it seemed a lot better and ran smoother, serviced the LPG system etc.. but after several thousand miles it has started to do the same pressure drop/surge has before. :crybaby: :tsktsk:

Just a bug i guess :whistling: i will have to live with it and accept it since it causes no probs. Just think of the fuel saving: winky:

Oh just to add I have spoken to Hilton gas conversation based in Wolverhampton any1 know of these guys and are they any good?

Well I spoke to one of the techincal guys and mentioned I had an emmegas converstion but dont know which model..... he said its gona be a single point older version ( it was converted in 2001 ). I explained to him what is not normal and he knew straight away and said its got to do with your vapouriser (dunno what that is even after he explained lol) and that its probably the original one and not been changed since new (2001 or after 100K), he also mentioned that they normaly tend to go after 60K but near to 100K and some dont even go. Anways he said he got the part in stock and its also best to get the plugs and leads changed aswell to get a good mix what ever that means....

so In thinking of taking it to him for a complete service and vaporiser roughly for £150 does this sound a good deal?

Also where can you get NGK plugs and a good set of leads from?

Your system is the same has mine then (Emmagas ) and has it happens mine was installed in 2001 too. :winky:

Your Technical guy sounds like he is talking sence but i will pose the same Question to another one that i go to (LPG specialist) based here in Leeds, see what he comes up with and i will mention the Vapouriser thingy.. on Firday, will post back the response. :shifty:

Hopefully we can get the same bug fixed. Please note that if your GS has Coilpacks instead of leads then you are stuffed..The ones for the IS200 are £98 + vat from stealers each.

Best to replace the Plugs and clean the leads (WD40) and see what happens.. is what i am going to do. :winky:

  • 5 months later...

Better LATE then NEVER...

Finally got time and had it checked out after living with it for a few months, took it to a place called hilton autogas in Wolverhampton (Great people and Fantastic service), Was almost a good 2 hours drive but one well worth the hassel.

The guy checks the system firstly he does a saftey inspection and then he did a diagnostic checks and theres me standing there scracthing my head trying to understand what he actually doing under the car

He comes back to me after 20mins and says was the sytem fitted in the dark ages lol to which I reply yeah early 2001.

he then wenton to say that it was indeed the Vaporiser that was too lean and it was not giving to correct amount of gas most of the time, mainly idlling.

He said he had made a few adjusts ments and it should be fine and it running normally but recommeded me to change the vaporiser as the current one is well into its last few laps before it gives up. He didnt even charge me for his service so was well chuffed ( I guess I told him that I came a long way )

So now im booked in to go back this weekend and have a new one fitted with new pipes and a complete flush and set up to make it purr :winky:
