Is The Sc The Same As Gs

Hi all

looking at some parts for my GS300 on USA sites I keep coming across SC300, is this the same car mechanically etc as the GS and just the USA version or is there a bigger difference

The Lexus SC300 is the Toyota Soarer, not the same as the GS300/Aristo.

was fitted with a 2JZ-GE engine

so may have interchangeable mechanical parts, but you would need to know exactly what you were after

The reason I was asking is that I am after a couple of Lambda O2 sensors and found this site

They assure me that I need a 4 wire Lambda sensor but mine has a 1 wire and they say that is listed under a Lexus SC300 spec and american specs GS300 had a 4 wire system although they basically had the same engine

These are so cheap for parts I just feel that I have to give them a try

Can't see why not to try them. I'm sure when I looked at mine they had 4 wires, but I could be wrong. As long as the replacements have the right number of wires, and you are happy to cut and join wires to the existing connectors, then they should work no problem.

Is yours a Mk 2 with VVTI ? mine is a Mk 1 without, I am LED to believe from someone that the change from 1 wire to many wires was during that upgrade

Mine is a Mk 1 too, I'll pop outside in a mo' with a torch and take another look.

Just checked. It has definately got 4 wires on the two in the engine bay. I would assume the one under the car has 4 too.

this is wierd

I went and double checked mine in case I was losing it, and even pulled the plug in case it has very very small wires, mine is definatley only a 1 wire sender and 1 wire connector in the loom

suggestions anyone ? is my car made earlier than I thought but registered later as does happen

I'll go check one of the connectors just incase mine has had 4 wire ones connected to single wire connector. I just checked the ends of the probe which had 4 wires. Be back in a mo'.

4 wire loom so definately a 4 wire system.

What year is your GS?

allegedly a 1995 but i am now thinking it must be made a little earlier as mine is def a mk1

i cannot see that the loom has ever been modified, all looks original so will order the 1 wire units and see what happens

besides at that price i can't really go wrong, can I ?

Only thing I can think of is that the sport came in on 96, so maybe that tied in with some minor changes to the cars in general. I'm sure I've read somewhere that the auto gearbox changed slightly in 96 also. Mk1's didn't go out until 97 so it could only be an under the skin face lift on the electrics that could account for it I guess.
