Second And Last Thing Thats Bugging Me!

Recommended Posts

Ok....i'll be going down a road with speed humps i normally tackle the whole thing in second gear...depending on the gap between each hump. I'll be doing about 5-7mph dropping off the hump as i accelerate. Thats when the engine lets out a little squeaking nose, its very quiet and only lasts until i've increased my speed by about 3mph...then its gone! It also happens sometimes during the first 3mph of pulling away in 1st gear...depending on the amount of revs i'm giving the car. At any other speed theres nothing!

It used to happen before the service its just had, but it's still there slightly and bugging me!!

Any suggestions or advise will be greatfully received everyone!!!

Thanks - Neil

I would still wager the belt needs tightening. You should have it checked and tensioned to the right value. An old rule of thumb, and that's exactly what it is, used to recommend tightening the belt until you could just about rotate it through 90 degrees. However, you really should find out the correct setting and have it adjusted properly. Be careful of overtightening!

  • 2 weeks later...

Ok everyone, further to what I explained above...I took my car to the garage on Friday. A mechanic came out with me to have a listen to the noise. As the little squeaking noise made an apperance, he immediately said that's part of the exhaust rubbing (engine end) and he was definate. I said could anything be done with it, he said it happens quite a bit on the IS200's and there isn't anything they can really do about it. However, he said he can have a go at it if I want, but there was no definate chance that the noise would go...???

I just wanted to know if a that sounds right and also has anyone else heard of or experienced such a thing??

Cheers - Neil
