can anyone tell me, does a K&N panal filter help with anything.

I have a K&N in my GS. Can't say I have noticed much difference in performance, but fuel economy improved by around 10% which was an unexpected bonus. Shop around (especially on ebay) and you could get yourself one for similar money to a bog standard one which will save money in the long run as they just need cleaning rather than replacing.
