Should I be worried about the replacement of the front 2 shocks for 53 plate with 35k on the clock?

Guess it all depends on what the journeys are like that you do - if you've got a lot of speed bumps or really bad roads then they will fail a lot quicker than if the car had spent it's entire life on the motorway?

I guess it is coming up to six years old now. My spring completely failed and snapped at ten years.

no not unless they are leeking- if you look at the shocker and see that they are wet on the bottom half of the leg then it will need replacing as this is the oil leaking by the seals. thus making the shocker useless.
