Lsd Differential Oil

I read on the Lexus manual "DO NOT USE SPECIAL LSD OIL" for the sport IS200 with torsen type lsd differential.

I went to a local Lexus dealer and he insisted to use LSD oil... <_<

What do you guys with the sport version differential use?

I haven't had to do anything to mine myself. But on the service data sheet in the online manual, it doesn't show any different oil for LSD or not LSD, it just says "Hypoid gear oil API GL-5 SAE 90" for temps above -18 deg C. The only difference that it mentions there is that the non-LSD version takes slightly more oil.

You are absolutetly right. Thats what i have told them.

And i really don't trust their "professional" opinion.

They say that on all Lexus and Toyota models with LSD they use lsd oil.

So that's what they re gone use for my car also...

I think i am going to trust what the manufacturer service manual says.

My only doubt is if the LSD oil is better but just NOT required for our differentials.

as already said the "torsion type" LSD is purely a mechanical setup and doesn't need special LSD vicious fluid ... I'd be concerned leaving my car with a dealer that didn't even know this ...

I use gear oil equivalent to whats recommended as my local Toyota don't stock small quantities
