Engine Tick Over

My mate and I serviced the my is200 last week whilst changing some other parts of the car.

When we started it the revs went upto 2000. After a while they went down to 1100. We checked the air sensor and made sure everything was connected properly. We put in Castrol magnatec with Motor up extreme additive to help the engine run smoother.

I have to say the car feels like it has more torque and runs a lot better since we did it.

What I want to know is whats the tick over set to. Mines running at 900. 1000 in the morning when the engine is cold then goes down.

Any info would be a great help

I think mine idles at 800-900rpm? As long as the revs drop when the engine warms up it should be ok.

Thanks for that. Went out this evening and the car was revving at 1500 for a while then when I got home checked it again and it was running back at 900. There was no engine light on.

I was thinking it could be the air intake sensor. Will check it tomorrow.

Actully, I wanted to ask this too.

Mine tick over at 550 in P, 500 when I put in D. (readings taken from my OBD reader, it's not a guess) it runs very smooth, no vib, I can put a 50P on top of the engine, it will stand up on it own.

how about your guys? what's your tick over rev?

thanks

Felix

There is a range I think that it should be in to pass MOT I thought. - when warm obviously.

An auto will drop slightly when in gear - thats normal.

From memory, think mine is around 800, depending on if air conn kicks in or not. When cold its about 1k, probably around 1200-1300?

Been checking the idle on the car and it varies for how long its been running or how I've been driving the car.

The average now is 1000 at idle , which does seem a little high. I'm going to take the car into Lexus dealer to see if there is a problem. No doubt that will cost me a small mortgage!

Funny thing is the car is running better than it ever has.
