Biggest Bill You've Had Whilst Running An Rx400

Recommended Posts

I've been thinking about whether the Rx400 is a good "long term" car to keep running into old age. Or whether, due to the Lexus dealer rates it starts to become prohibitively expensive when things start to age.

Difficult to know, I realise, but I thought it might be useful to know if anyone out there has had any really monstrous bills during their ownership.

Mine is 4 years old and is still running under the Lexus extended warranty which isn't cheap!

Cheers,

U

Hi, I have been thinking the same thing, the warranty I got with the car is due to end in 11m and I am already thinking about it. This company called carwarranty, you will see them on admiral car insurance site rang me and offers the luxury care cover, for 365 to start in Jan 2011, migh take them up on it, paid the 20 to hold it for me, looks ok, it covers for labour and parts at the Lexus franchised dealers :), just in case something major breaks, it doesn't cover the usual wear and tear items , have a look, if anyone else had had experience with th, please share. Thanks

Hi Kt,

Thanks for your response. It seems that mine would cost quite a bit more than yours (presumably due to mileage which is now 50k). It quoted me £600 a year for franchised dealer cover which isn't too far away from the Lexus extended warranty which also includes RAC cover (at £800 ish).

One thing it would be good to check is whether it covers all the hybrid equipment in the car, ie traction Battery, motors & CVT gearbox as these are the pretty expensive to repair and I didn't see them mentioned in the "what's covered" breakdown.

I appreciate the cost of the Lexus Extended Warranty might seem high (circa £700 PA) but it is well worth it as it will pay for itself come claim time; not simply in terms of cost, but the seamless and hassle-free way the claim will be processed and expedited.

Most Third Party Warranties take longer to accept/authorise/accept a claim and process it and then there is the inevitable to'ing and fro'ing between them, the Dealer and you, when it comes to processing a claim as they will want to know if this-part or that-part actually needs replacing etc. - the hassle involved is simply not worth it, and that is if they accept the claim in the first instance. The Lexus product costs more because it is worth more. In my ownership I have made all sorts of claims and posted my experience when it comes to claiming.

Just one example that I guarantee your Third Party Warranty will NOT cover:

My auto dimming wing mirror failed. Lexus accepted the claim and paid for an entirely new unit - they simply didn't replace the mirror glass itself, but the entire wing mirror assembly. Reason being that you cannot simply replace the glass. This meant the new assembly had to be brought in, painted and then fitted to the car. All done without question, quibble or issue. It needed it, it got it.

I guarantee that your Third Party Warranty wont pay for the mirror glass let alone a new assembly that requires painting...remember: you get what you pay for. And this is one example of Lexus Warranty paying out...which it did time and again when I needed stuff doing.

I hope this puts things into perspective for you.
