Possible New Clutch? Advice On What You Think It Is

Recommended Posts

The past few days i have been driving i have noticed my car acting oddly. for example when in 4th doing around 30mph if i put my foot down when i get to 40mph around 3000rpm the needle on the rpm dial seems to jump up an go back down almost like the car is double clutching giving a bit of a jolt (not really the word as it isnt as bad as a jolt more like hitting the powerband). It also dips in revs now n then in 3rd like it will stay on 3500rpm when driving jus for a split second then start driving normaly again.

Could this be the clutch. It has jus had a complete service including timing belt sparks and oil etc from lexus

Any ideas or thoughts would be appreciated.

Joe

Evidence of a slipping clutch normally manifests itself by the revs increasing when the accelerator is pushed but no increase in speed (similar to revving in neutral).

A good test is to cruise at 30mph, slot into your highest gear and floor it. If the clutch is slipping bad enough, the revs will go up really quickly but the speed will drop/stay the same.

A slipping clutch won't explain dips in power though as the speed may drop but the more you accelerate, the more you rev so power to the engine will still be there. Is that what you're experiencing/trying to say?

Power dips are more typical with a fuel/air problems.
