hi guys, this is nahc from south east china.

i am new here and also a new owner of is200, bought it off my dad haha.

i dont think my dad has done anything to the car over the past 10 years other than oil change. im planning to take it for a check up.

for this 10 year old car, is there anything i should check or pay attention to? like the post about the "timing belt" issue is really useful, thanks a lot guys!!!

few more questions

*i think everything remains orginal in this car. its a little bit noisey when accelrating what do you guys think the problem is?

*there are 3 little meters on the meter panel, one is water temperature, one is the Battery, what is the bottom one? when driving it goes down to 0 i think, but wehn stop at traffic light, it goes up to 30... is it normal?

*is200 has about 160 horses, pls correct me if im wrong, but i still feel it kinda lacks power, is there anything i can do to it to gain an extra 20 or 30 horses? i dont exactly have enough paper to do a engine change or turbo tho...hehe, pls guys, put in your advices.

thank you~~!!!

Welcome to the club mate B)

That timing belt post is the first place I'd be going, including water pump, idler pulleys and tensioners etc.

After that, suspension components, ball joints, bushes, ARB links

CV joints might be worth a once over too to make sure they've looking good and not about to split.

As for engine noise, without hearing it, people aren't going to be able to advise. You'd be better off recording a video with good noise quality and posting that up for people to hear....

Sounds like it could be MPG - like it says next to it....

If its zero when driving, that doesn't sound normal....I'll await someone to correct me on this though as I have oil pressure on mine.

You can do tweaks such as air filter, exhaust and such but to get bigger gains, you need to spend bigger bucks. Aftermarket ECU's, after that its turbo's and superchargers.....

Hope thats a little helpful

hi buddy, thx for the advice

i double checked the MPG meter, it varies when driving, i suppose thats normal, but it shoots up to the max when stops which engines still running.

and do you is200 owners find that the car has a slight radiation problem? or just my car... after driving i find areas such as the shifter panel area, the coin holder area, passenger foot resting area and etc pretty warm...i meant overly warm, is that normal?

one more thing, if im to put a turbo or supercharger in, where is the best place to the parts? can this old car handle it if only putting in a turbo without upgrading other systems? like the radiation system?

I'm guessing if your car is Chinese then you would have a l/100km guage rather than an MPG one. It will work inversely to an MPG guage so the lower the number the better fuel economy you are getting.

It's normal for it to read maximum when idling at a standstill as it means that you are burning fuel but getting 0km whilst doing so. Hope that makes sense.
