What Can-Bus Obdii/obd2 Reader?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Can anyone please suggest a Can-bus/obdii/obd2 reader that they know will work on a 2006 GS? (and reset codes)

What protocols do I need to look for and oh..... where is the socket? - Engine bay or passenger comp?

I have had a search on the world wide wonder web and there are units that range from around £30 up to a small house !!

Any help appreciated.

The Ed

I'm not sire which OBDII readers will work. I have one (cheap one from Ebay) which doesn't work on my '98 LS400, but I think (or was told by another member) that although my car has the port, the wiring is not there, or at least not fully wired.

The port will be in the car, probably on the drivers side right down near your feet. That's part of the standard for OBDII compliant vehicles.

If you're local to me, I'm quite happy to try my reader on your car :)

Thanks

Mike

I don't think that it is that it isn't wired up, just not fully obd2 compliant. From what I can gather, full compliance was a legal requirement in the States from 96 onwards, but it was a fair bit later in Europe. I would've thought a 2006 model should be well after the compliance starting on european cars, so ought to work with any reader. So probably worth a punt on one of the cheap ones.
