Hi

I have just bought a 2002 Lexus IS 200 SE with 47k miles up and amm wondering which has been dealer serviced since new. Is there anything much to be gained by continuing this over a decent independent firm in view of the car's age?

My local dealer charged me £14.62 for 2 key batteries last week so I am not anxious to see what they charge for servicing.

Any comments and advice would be gratefully received.

A good independent will have no problems with your IS200. Check that the cambelt and pulley have been replaced - should have been done in 2008. You should see a sticker on the engine with the date and mileage recorded. If the service invoices are missing you could always ask the Lexus dealer for confirmation.

All cars get to an age were you have to decide if a main dealer stamp in the book is cost affective, my IS300 is also a 2002 and has full Lexus history, previous owners in total have spent £4300 with Lexus but a car at 8 years old is not worth much more money than a car serviced by an independent, my car will never see a dealer again.

If you can find a Toyota/Lexus specialist they should be able to look after you car.

Can't believe the price on the batteries! I bought one a couple weeks ago was £2.50 and I felt mugged!
