Engine Cold Start Rattle

Hi all,

I suspect I know what I need to do, but anyway: on cold starting I SOMETIMES get a loudish rattle from the engine for a half second or so. I suspect hydraulic tappets or maybe a chain tensioner - any comments or ideas??

I probably need to visit the dealer - however intermittent faults usually never happen when a mechanic is near!!

Always useful to try the search facility on the forum. The rattle on start up from cold is a problem known by Lexus and there's a TSIB for it (Technical Service Information Bulletin) discussed many times in this forum, and here's a link to one http://www.lexusowne...showtopic=54369

Ahhhhh thanks for that - looks like i'm in good company on this topic my car's extended warranty runs out this summer so i'd better ask the question about its history in case it was looked at before for this fault.
