Problems With Is220D Sport

Recommended Posts

Hi all I purchased a 09 IS220d sport 6months ago and in the 6months it has been back to Lexus twice firstly with a rattle coming from the clutch/gearbox and also with rattles coming from the head liner in the back, rattles coming from drivers door and a loud crack from the dash. The flywheel was changed and the rattling areas were packed with sound proofing and they also said the plastic guides that are used to put the glass into the car were removed as they were the fault for all noise from the head liner. I payed my second visit to Lexus 2hours after I collected it with the rattle from the rear headliner after returning. They solved this by then packing the headliner with more sound proofing. I'm due to return this Tuesday to Lexus with the following problems: drivers seat and gator squeaking, dash making a cracking sound after heat has been on for 5-10 min, back shelf rattling, drivers door handle rattling and you guessed it rattle coming from rear headliner. Also while driving the car one night all power went from the car no warning lights came up on the dash. I'm just wondering are all of these problems common. From what I've seen and heard the dash cracking is a common complaint. I'm just wondering about the rest

Wow mate, how unlucky. Sounds like a lemon of a Lexus! Totally unheard of for me. But not surprised that the 1 Lexus that might give you problems us the diesel! It doesn't have a great reputation!

My brother in law has a 220D and has had none of these problems except he had a vibrating rear view mirror a few months ago which Lexus changed for free.

Did you get the car from a Lexus dealer? If yes then I'd be asking for my money back or at least a generous part ex for a IS250. Not many probs with the petrol cars Lexus make!

You are right about the dash crack being a known fault. Its horrible, just like a pellet being fired at the windscreen. It is an easy fix with some spacers fitted between the stereo and the ac/heater controls. You should have a 12 month warranty on your purchase so just take it back and request it all to be sorted. Do you have the history and documentation? If not ask Lexus dealer to print off the history for you... they can do this, don't accept it if they say they can not. The loss of power is a major concern...that definitely needs investigation. Might not be relevant but ask for ALL the Battery leads to be checked, especially the earth lead to the body at body end.

I have 12month warranty but I'm starting to get annoyed that a new problem develops every couple of weeks. Thanks for the advice

I know it’s the most annoying thing when your car has irritating niggles but stick with it and make your warranty work for you, I also have a 220d sport and had lots of issues with the car which eventually resulted in a new engine, Lexus have spent close to £11k on warranty claims on my car and now the car is running perfect, if you work with your dealer to resolve the problems, they will fix them for you, Lexus are renowned for their customer service so use it to your advantage.
