Buyers Guide For Rx300

Recommended Posts

Hello from a new forum member,

After much comparison, i decided to buy an Rx300, other contenders were nissan murano and ml270 merc. It is mainly for my wife to drive around locally and maybe one or two long distance trips. Total mileage per year wont exceed 5000.

I will see couple of rx300s advertised on eBay with around 70k on the clock.

As owners, can you please tell me common issues and what to look for in an rx300? Both are SeL models.

Any recalls?

Also in general, how can i tell if all oils, coolants, water levels are correct? Is there a guide for this sort of thing for lexus?

Would you insist on lexus dealer service history or not?

Things i pickedup are;

- cambelt needs changing at 100k, costing £1000 (i will probably part exchange the car in 2-3 years so no issue if it doesnt break)

- dashboard creaking

- rusty wheels

Any tips will be highly appreciated

I'd dispute the cost of the cambelt change at being around the 1k mark (unless dealler serviced).

I had my IS300 (essentially the same engine) in for a 100k service, cambelt and waterpump that came in at less than 700.

I think from memory I was quoted less than 350 for the cambelt alone.
