Soarer Rear Diff

Recommended Posts

Hi

This is my first post and visit to this forum.

Recently bought a Soarer V8, but I do know the rear diff is on its way out.

I haven't pulled it off the car yet to get the part no, and looking for a spare reveals very few.

The question I have, will a differential from a Lexus LS400 be a swap in, as they are supposed to be the same floorpan / chassis etc.

Kind regards

Andy

Hello and welcome to the LOC.

There is Smiffies Soarer Sanctuary in Norfolk or nearer for you Puremoto in Chesterfield who break Soarers.

Why do you think the differential is on its way out? Unless it has been starved of oil they should run the life of the car.

According to the information I have found the Soarer diff is a LSD type and these were not fitted to the LS400 models, I have heard that the Toyota Supra uses a LSD but these are rare to find if they are compatible with the Soarer.

Hi

Found out why the car felt funny, the rear diff has been welded (apparently).

Been a busy couple of days doing research and have located a diff from a 3.0 ltr model.

Physical size is the same but ratio jumps to 4.1 from 3.96.

Not sure if mine is open or LSD as they came with both.

Just need to watch speed on motorways as indicated speed would be slightly less than actual.

Fingers crossed got a good deal on it as we'll. should arrive early next week.

Started taking mine off tonight which is fun.

Can take case off when out to see what's going on.

Will keep you posted.

Andy

A welded diff sounds like it been on a racetrack or used for drifting, you'll certainly get excessive tyre wear with it on the road.

The rear suspension is quite involved think yourself lucky it's not the active with 4 wheel steering or is it?

  • 5 months later...

Hi. Been scraping the forums for any info on rear diffs in a 02 RX300 (done about 110K). Mine has got increasingly noisey over the last 4 or 5 years and now the vsc light has come on (not sure if this is coincedental yet as I haven't got the code - will update when I have). Anyway I'm thinking that the rear diff will either need a major service or a replacement from a reliable scrappy. Any recommendations for either would be very welcome.

Can send a pic if that helps?

cheers
