Another 220D Problem?

Hi all,

I am new to the forum and instead of having 2 threads one of introducing myself and one of a potential problem I thought why not join both and here we are.

I drive an 06 Lexus IS220d, which recently completed 102000 miles of superb (touch wood) driving, cruising, school runs and shopping trips. I absolutely love it and intend on running it into the ground and then some.

That said I have been getting a little bad luck, all starting with a *beep* monkey at Knowsley safari who decided to take a bite out of the plastic strip on the front windshield.

Then a while later a young girl in a yaris hit my passenger door mirror causing the mirror to come out of the casing as well as the motors.

These are superficial and dont actually take anything away from me smiling every time I get in.

The problem I am having that I hope somebody can help me with is, I know the turbo takes years to kick in, that never really bothered me. Usually for my car in 1st gear the turbo will boost from about 1500 revs, 2nd gear it kicks in just below 2000 revs.

Recently the turbo doesn't seem to be spooling up. I will floor it in first gear and although the car will move it is not as brisk as before and just generally makes engine noise. In 2nd gear it is no longer boosting till around 2500-3000 revs.

Has anybody had this problem? or know what the problem is will be of a huge help. I have heard something about the "turbo actuator" but I have no idea what that is

Hello and welcome to the LOC.

Have you cleaned your EGR valve, pretty simple to do and a major cause of poor running problems and may explain why the turbo has so much lag.

hey steve thanks for the reply. As far as I know in my owner ship the egr valve has never been cleaned.

That said would a full engine strip and rebuild be viable?
