I can't quite workout if I like the paddle control? does anyone understand how they work n reference to the CVT gearbox. The gear ratio seems to 'shift' up when I am in 1/2 automatically. Does anyone else use the paddles a lot?

Just a gimmick designed to appeal to the American Yoof market. Despite the fact that they don't sell the hybrid there...

Since an Atkinson cycle engine is designed to operate in a very narrow rev band, I really don't see the point of them at all! But it does mean they can use the same parts through their range.

The use I find best for the paddles is to charge the Battery more when going down steep hills without having your foot on the brake. My old prius used to have a B setting on the gearbox but dropping it down a gear on the paddles in the IS seems to work just as well.

I tested the Prius with the 'B' setting too. Today I have the paddle set to S4 and it seemed to work for about everything. I am starting to think it is a little bit of a gimmick.
