I did London to Birmingham and back via Bicester yesterday and averaged about 36mpg. Not bad considering I had all the accesories going plus I hit 80 mph a few times. I still would prefer a straight 6 rather than a V6 though. My wifes BMW 325i has a beautiful engine.

An interesting comment as straight 6's seem to be less favoured in the motoring press than V-6's. The argument seems to be that the shorter length of a V-6 crankshaft makes for a more compact and better balanced engine.

I agree the old is straight six does sound better than the new v6 .the injectors seem to be noisy on the v6 .noisy ticking .

My IS is definitely noisier( injectors) than my wifes 325i but the BMW feels heavier and the IS accelerates quicker. Did London to Leicester and back today but only acheived 28.7 mpg. Really caned it on the way back though.....
