Student Expelled For Postings On Online Journal!

A very close friend of mine has recently been told to leave her college for postings she made online on her LiveJournal (www.livejournal.com).

She was stopped on her way to work one morning and given a letter saying she'd been expelled with immediate effect. No trial, no chance to explain herself, no respect for her freedom of speech.

Does anyone else agree that her treatment has been a just little harsh?

That's a tough one.

I think the lesson to be learned - by everyone - is that you can't expect to say and do things without any repurcussions. This ain't a free country, nor is the US.

I agree - it's tough on your friend, but "don't bite the hand that feeds you" comes to mind. The deans of her college are human beings too (hopefully) - if people get hurt by others' insults, their tendancy is to lash out.

Has she considered apologising?

I guess you guys are right, you can't expect to say certain things and get away with it.

I just feel this is unfair because we've all made similar comments about teachers and the like when we were in education. I don't think its at all threatening, I think its just part of school life - there are teachers you get along with and there are those you despise.
