  1. Hi All,

Well sh!t happened on Saturday, i was accelerating hard to join traffic when the belt broke, mechanic hasn't time to strip it down until tomorrow so I'm wondering if anyone knows if this engine is interference or not, or does it matter when your on WOT? will valves be fecked anyway or could it be ok?

Belt was done at 79k km's and there's 140k on the clock now so approx 40,000 miles, wasn't a Toyota belt as 3 years ago they were still snobs to imports, so i fitted a "Blueprint" belt i got from Fensport as they seemed to be the only ones familier with Altezza's back then....

    thanks

  2. Wider wheels and tyres will put an end to any oversteer ..... I have 8" rims and "had" 245's on the rear and found it nearly impossible to get the tail out, even when i was trying ...

I have since fitted 225's and the fun factor is back, it's amazing how much of a difference 20mm in width can make ..

  3. this idea was mentioned over here as well but the reasoning behind it was to cut down of emissions and fuel consumption as Ireland is still way over the kyoto allowance ... apparently they said cars travelling around 50mph use a third less than cars doing 70 -ish ...IIRC

wonder if thats the reasoning behind the UK as well as the fines for being over the quota are hefty.....

  4. I read on another forum somewhere that apparently the shafts coming out of the diff on the is200 have 4 bolt holes whereas the altezza has 6...?

    Can anybody confirm this?

Im basically just wanting a straight swap over and am wondering if there is anything extra involved...?

    Thanks.

    Yes you are correct...

A few points to keep in mind ...

Manual RS200 up to 2002 (changed mid to late 2001 apparently) have a Torsion diff with a 4.1 final drive, 2002 have a 4.3 final drive...

Auto (5speed) only got a LSD as an optional extra!

Monster Mat is the expert on here regarding whats involved and has alot of posts up about the likes over the years ... be worth your while searching through the old threads...

  5. Thanks for the info guys.

If it shouldn't need changing then I won't bother buying the right one.

I've always changed the filters on all my old cars. I suppose it's a better design than on other cars if it shouldn't need changing.

    Cheers all :)

From the service schedule I've seen it should be changed every 75,000 km's or every 5 years ... :winky:

  6. How's the going ... have you still got the black Tezza?

Lots of Tezza's crashed and for breaking lately over here, so you should be able to get one handy enough ... shipping anything heavy-ish from the UK is depressingly expensive ... two or 3 advertised for breaking on Tezzaworld ;)

What type do you need, there not all the same

I have my old one, never got error 3 but it's been under the stairs for 3 years...

    cheers

    Noel

  7. as already said the "torsion type" LSD is purely a mechanical setup and doesn't need special LSD vicious fluid ... I'd be concerned leaving my car with a dealer that didn't even know this ...

I use gear oil equivalent to whats recommended as my local Toyota don't stock small quantities

  8. Lexus GB are on 0845 278 8888 fella, might be worth asking what they say?

They have to honour European imports nowadays, not sure what their stance is on worldwide imports though?

Did Dave mention whether he has warranty on that IS350 from Japan?

Dave's is a 2005 so it's out of warranty now anyways... from what i've been told over here Toyota only warranty "official" imports :(

I'd still buy Dave's in a heartbeat though ... if only i had the cash.... still dreaming

  9. Fuel filter is in the tank as said already so one for an MR-2 won't do ....

go get the proper one from Toyota

    Fuel Filter - 23300-74330 (SXE10) 1998-2000

    Fuel Filter - 23300-21010 (SXE10) 2000+

it's not supposed to be that easy to change according to the lads that have done it...

  10. I had a similar driving experience and it was totally down to unpaired tyres ... after fitting two new F1's to the front the steering wheel wasn't centre anymore and braking from speed was scary and made me think the ball joints were fecked ....

Anyway since fitting two new paired tyres all these issues are gone and the cars a joy to drive again ... :)

If you haven't fitted new tyres recently then maybe one of them has been damaged by a pothole or kerb?

    just my experience :)
