  1. I had the same problem. I have a 2001 GS300SE with DVD navigation. I didn't want to pay over £270 for an upgrade at Lexus so I bought one from ebay. It was a 2005 disc. Looked brand new. Took out the old DVD, put in the new one, everything worked but had no map reading. Took the disc to my Lexus dealer and they told me it was for the new LS430 which has a far newer system than is fitted to my GS. I'm bighting the bullet and buying one from Lexus in the new year, so long as it has the new M6 toll road on it. Sick of my nav unit looking like I am driving through space. I know it's expensive but at least it should work.
  2. Hi Keith Many thanks for your reply. I have looked into the legall problems which some people seem to be confused with as regards to HID's. Some MOT testers think that if HID's are fitted, then they must also be fitted with headlamp washers and auto levelling to the headlights. This is true if HID's were supplied with the car from new. If they are fitted as an aftermarket upgrade, then the washers and levellers are not required. My HID's have even impressed examiners on driving tests where weather conditions have been poor. Never had a problem with them on MOT either. Hopefully Father Christmas will drop a kit in my stocking. I hope I have been good enough this year. :winky: :winky:
  3. Hello. Just a few questions. I have a H4 Bi-Xenon headlight conversion done on my Nissan Micra driving school car. The performance of these bulbs is fantastic. I would like to get a set for my 2001 GS300. I was wondering if anyone had done this conversion on a Mk 2 GS. Also what type of bulbs would I need and could anyone recomend a company? The company I bought my kit for the Micra from no longer trades. Any help would be much appreciated. I was thinking of approaching Lexus with this but I doubt I woud have much change from a grand and also having my 60,000 mile service and cambelt change a fortnight before christmas at a Lexus main dealer means the pennies are a bit tight. Many thanks.
  4. I have just booked in my 2001 GS300 Navi in for a 60,000 mile 6 year service. Cost was very similar to yours. They also informed me that the cam belt was due for renewal, taking my bill to nearly £900 with Gold discount and me supplying my own oil. The service book says that it is 100,000 or 10 years for a cambelt change. I have a feeling that there have been many cambelts snapping before the 10 years or the 100,000 miles are up. Better to get it done and swallow the bill than to chance a wrecked engine. It will be cheaper in the long run.
  5. Hi People Many thanks for the responses as regards to supplying my own engine oil for a service. Having spoke directly to someone in the service department they told me to supply semi synthetic oil. Castrol Edge 0-30 is fully synthetic so it must be better for it in the long run. Also as this is the 60,000 or 6 year service, they also informed me that the cam belt needs changing. I was under the impression that it was every 10 years or 100,000 miles but they said they have lowerd it. This has put my bill with discount and supplying my own oil to nearly £900. Still, I do get to play with the RX400h for a day. Thanks again for all the advice and for the discount or this would have really been expensive.
  6. This is my first post so please be gentle. I have a 2001 GS300 Navigator and it is due the big 60,000 mile service. I must be brave as I'm going to have it done by Lexus Woodford. One thing I want to use is this Castrol Edge 0-30 oil with this service. I know it's expensive but I want the best for my prode and joy. Will Lexus let me supply my own oil for this service or will there be a chance that I hand over 2 cans of the stuff, find someones gone home with it and run the risk of having the normall stuff put in? Also want to say I'm a Gold member and am really impressed by all the usefull info on this site. Also more impressed by the car. This is the first Lexus I've owned and will certainly have another.
