  1. Hi All, (Please excuse my knowledge as I am not very technical in the aspect of the engine) I had the plugs changed on my IS200 sport today by a local garage. They had removed the coils and on when replacing the spark plugs they noticed a very small amount of oil in one of the holes. They have advised that the Rocket gasket cover needs to be replaced and the seals otherwise in the long run this could damage the coil. Can you please advise if this correct diagnostic? Also they have advised I may as well change all of the seals. Can anyone advise on cost on how much the rocket gasket cover and seals would cost? Also would this need to be done urgently as I am pretty much strapped for the cash at the moment would prefer to delay it if possible? Thanks Jay
  2. Thanks mate, im on the look out for some spark plugs the price seems to be good. Any one assist as on previous searches everyone has recommened the Denso Iridium IK20, are the NGK just as good?
  3. Hi Guys, Well my cars due a service now, as it approached 12 months and done 10,000 miles since its last. My car has now done 87,000 miles. I need some help with the questions below: 1. Searched the forum it seems The Denso Iridium Spark plugs IK20 are the best option. Are these universal plugs, as there are a number of items on USA eBay but they don't state there for a Lexus. Please see the link below (may have to copy and paste) the Guy has advertised them for a Porsche, would these be safe to buy for the Lexus? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/DENSO-IRIDI...emZ290259824809 2. Was thinking of buying semi synthetic engine oil, 10w-40w would this be correct? 3. Cambelt been changed already anything else I should consider due to the mileage? What about the rear axle oil, is this necessary? 3. With the recent tax hike and petrol costs I was thinking of doing the plugs and filters by myself and getting the oil and oil filter done at a garage but to be honest i have never worked on any engine before. Therefore can any of you recommend a good independent garage in the East London/Essex area? Thanks for your help guys (p.s sorry for the long post)
  4. IN my opinion, It has to be the gorgeous HONDA NSX, especially with the pop up lights. A true legend and as i remember the great Ayrton Senna had a hand in making this car. Also cult status in pulp fiction.. Mr Wolf?
  5. Hi Lick WID, I am selling my IS200 sport in Metallic black, an immaculate example. I have sent you a message with all the details. Thanks Jay
  6. The last full tank I made note of was back in Feb, I got 330 miles ( 58.89 litres @ £1.03 this was back in Feb petrol was much cheaper!) 330 miles mixture of town and motorway. Was driving like an absolute pensioner. Changing gear every 2,000- 2,500 RPM. Worked out 25.4MPG, which I think is great but driving that slow was not fun!
  7. :Ftsktsk:k Government!! I Cannot believe this!! What an absloute joke. £415 from March 2009! I only bought My IS200 in January, If I had known I would have bought a pre 2001 March model. £415 on top of insurance, petrol and servicing etc is just too much to run a car. My uncles got a Mercedes S500 (2000 Model) and he will only be paying £185.00 Also who will want to buy an IS200 registered after March 2001. Resale values are bound to take a big hit because of this. I will be considering selling. I dont think i could afford £415 a year!
  8. Hi Guys, I just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone over the past few months who have helped me answer my questions. The forum is ace and a big help to newcommers like myself. Finally bought an IS200 sport (In black) and I love driving it. No doubt I will join all of you in the next meet, probably still have a few questions in the comming months. Thanks again, Jay
  9. Were these back lights an option or were they standard after 2001? I ask because I went to see a 2002 52 plate IS200 sport in balck and it had the clear white lights not the shaded ones (as in the pic from Parthiban). Does this mean that the car could have possibly been in an accident, visably the car looks stright.
  10. Hi All, The search continues as I am still looking for a nice example of an IS200 sport (preferably in Black) Last week I went to see an IS200 sport a 51 Plate. The backlights were dark shaded (i.e. they were not clear white). However this week I am interested in seeing a 52 plate IS200 sport and have noticed the back lights are clear White? Am I right in thinking that in 2001 the IS200 was face lifted? MPG Dial sat at the top of the chronograph set of dials and the speakers had silver rings round them. However what about the back lights? I did do a search but could not find anything conclusive. Any experts please clarify the situation of when these backlights changed? Many thanks Jay P.s Anyone selling a nice IS200 sport (2001 or above)
  11. Thanks for the comments Nev, I quite like the colour, infact ideally I am looking for a black or grey car. I saw another car today at a local trader, they had just received it. When I looked in the glove box I found the auction ticket that it was advertised on. So the trader had bought it from the auction. It had done 66,000 miles but only had three stamps in the service history book. Although it looked ok I walked away due to the service history. Any way the search continues... I think I will be patient until I find a decent private car or if someone decides to sell there Lexus from this forum. Jay
  12. Hi Guys, I still searching to buy an IS200 Sport until now I have only been looking at Private cars. I have noticed there are much more trade cars on the market. I have tried to stay away from buying from a trader because I believe they get cars and make them out to be better than they are. (i.e buy from an auction, clean up and they say only got this as a part ex). Any way should I wait to buy a mint private car or start to look at trade cars as well. Ideally want to spend up to 6000. The car below is from a trade but has caught my attention. Its a grey 02 plate IS200 sport got 82,000 miles , I do not know whether the cambelt has changed? Is there anything else I should look out for? http://www.junction7autocentre.co.uk/17771...ction_stock.htm Any advice would be helpful, would you buy from a private person or from a trader? Thanks Jay
  13. Kieth, Thanks for the info. Idealy I would love the opportunity to be able to drive the IS200 for more than 5mins but living in London I think that Garages are not so friendly. Only last week I went to see an IS200 locally in a garage and the guy was so unhelpful. He was not even willing to take me on a test drive let alone let me drive it.
  14. Thanks for all the comments guys. MPG is not a major issue, as long as I can achieve what it states on the spec sheet (or near about). What are you guys achieving from a full tank of petrol (obviously depends on town/motorway driving) Well guys with my budget I suppose I am going to be buying an IS200 with 90,000 miles plus. Is there anything to specifically look out for Also should I be buying an SE or a Sport Model?, thanks Jay
  15. Hi All, By the end of this month I will finally have saved enough money to buy a car. However I am still undecided. I have a max budget of £5,500 and am interested in an IS200 Sport/SE, or a MK4 Golf 1.8 Turbo. I know this an IS200 forum but I just wanted your opinions. The IS200 has a much better spec and is rear wheel drive, so I presume would be more fun to drive. However the 1.8T is quicker and better on fuel consumption. I suppose the thing that’s putting me off is the MPG from the IS200. I have searched the forum and have read some horror stories about MPG, are they really that bad on fuel?? I hope to test drive an IS200 next sat. If you had a budget like mine what would you buy? Any opinions would be greatly received. Thanks Jay
