  1. Cant you hear the bass coming out of the 42 inch speaker in the boot?? And I bet the driver has a baseball cap... And a hood. Yuk
  2. The link was at carstereohelp.com, but now the cheeky buggers want 4 dollars for the instructions, so that you can send the unit back to them for repair!. Anyway, heres a direct link: http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/audio/headunit.html Just adapt the instructions to your model, they wont be very different if not the same. My vents used to fall apart whenever I pulled them out, but I got pretty good at putting them together again, you really need 3 hands to do it, but most of them come out in one bit. Oh and BTW, if you have got the sat nav model then it all comes out in one lump, and its a bit heavy so be careful on the wires.
  3. Heres a link to some repair guides. http://arrc.epnet.com/autoasp/index.asp?si...main.autorefctr Just click on the year of your car etc etc. Not as good as a full manual, but its another resource.
  4. May be a good idea to turn your laptop off: http://www.metacafe.com/watch/1790621/pc_p...p_battery_fire/ May be more than a burnt duvet next time..
  5. Go here: http://bahamutcars.free.fr/workshop/LS_01-...ents/index.html Can take a while to load, then look on the menu at the left. go to: Repair Manual ( - 2003.7 ) then to: BODY ELECTRICAL then to: WIRELESS DOOR LOCK CONTROL SYSTEM then to: REPLACEMENT Pages BE-127 and BE-128 That tells you how to change the batteries on both the key and keyless entry remotes on the 430. And if changing the battery doesnt work, have a look at REGISTRATION PROCEDURE, see if the transmitter has fell out with the car.
  6. According to the Autotrader specs the 430 has 2 BHP Less and 15 more Torques than the 400, and the 430 is slightly better on fuel. Its more of a refinement to an already good engine than an all out improvement. I would imagine that the ECU gets re-mapped as well, to give more torque over a wider range of engine speed. I certainly feel that my 430 is better at higher speeds, and more importantly when overtaking, than my old 400. Remember these are Luxury cars, not sports cars, so all out power wont be the main consideration to the engine designers.
  7. Are you sure you got the correct magazine? I dont know if the Pioneer and Nakamichi systems that were fitted to the 400 had the same CD changer, or if the magazines were interchangeable. Could be that you got the wrong one, especially if it dont go in right. Doubt if the Cd changer was powered by a 20 amp fuse, it would melt before the fuse blew, more likely the amp is powered by that fuse and somebody shorted the feed out if its working ok now.
  8. 1. Does my immobilised transponder exist in the key or the remote control key fob? If the key has buttons on it, then its in the key. 2. Can I get a second hand unit ( fob, or key ) and take the electronics out and program them to my car ( once the key has been cut of course)? Most likely, look on E-bay, and search on this forum for Key/transponder etc etc, its been covered before. 3. The are Lexus 17inch alloys, but the tyres are 235,45,17, which i believe causes the speedo to under read by 5%. It looks as if they should be 235,50,17 to be back in spec. Do you agree? Yes, but they have probably been replaced due to the horrendous cost of the correct size tyres (try £170 + each). If you want to know how far off your speedo REALLY is, get a sat nav with a speedo readout or a road angel, you would be suprised. 4. Are these wheels an option, and are they part of a DHP, or is a DHP only for MkIV on? As far as I know they were only fitted to the DHP Mk4, but they look nice which is probably why they were swapped.
  9. If you dont mind travelling a bit then there are better cars out there for example: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Lexus-LS-400-P-REG-4...%3A1%7C294%3A50 Or a Mk 4: http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/c...icleRegLetter=R And there are more if you look around. Out of your two, the second one looks like a shed, at least the first one has lexus carpets in it.
  10. http://bahamutcars.free.fr/workshop/LS_01-...ents/index.html Repair Manual ( - 2003.7 ) / Body / Headlight / Removal Page B0-8
  11. Thats more or less the same question I asked the aircon guy, he didnt know either.
  12. You may want a look here: http://www.carstereohelp.com/stereoremovalLexusLS400str1.htm You could probably do the job without taking out the seat, but at least this shows you what to look for. And remember that the drivers seat is on the opposite side to this one as its a septic site. And heres a wiring diagram, its for a 1990 but again its more for pointers than anything else: http://www.lextreme.com/Lexradio.pdf
  13. IMHO dont go for dark blue. Its a swine to keep clean as the smallest mark stands out a mile. They look great when they are clean, but the slightest rainfall, mist or at this time of year, an overnights pollen layer, ruins all your hard work. Unfortunately I had no choice when I bought my 430 as needed a car there and then, and I already knew about dark blue having worked in a garage in my youth.
  14. look for an automotive aircon specialist, he will check for leaks before he recharges the system and if there is a leak then he can advise you. If there is a leak from the back, dont mess around just have it capped off, you wont notice it and it would probably cost a small fortune to fix. The front and rear aircon feed from the same supply, basically all the back is is a small rad with a blower on it, and unless you get driven everywhere you are not going to notice if this isnt working, I know because I had mine capped when the aircon guy said that the replacement pipes were 750 quid from Lexus!
  15. 93 LS400 L plate on forcourt: £2,275 Good condition £1050 Average condition £850 New MAF from Lexus £700 No contest really is there. Valuation at http://www.oxfordmail.co.uk/cars/carvaluation/# You would be as well off ringing around the breakers yards in your area, after you have done the cleaning and resetting. Am I right in saying that the Intake temp sensor is part of the MAF, so replacing the MAF is all he would need to do? or will he have to replace that as well? Or, could the fault be just Intake temp sensor, so the two fault codes are coming up for the single reason? Can the Temp sensor be replaced on its own? You know, sometimes I miss Cortinas.....
  16. Theres a MAF on E-bay item no 380122984723 for £45 plus shipping from the USA.
  17. At least he wasnt lying when he said he wouldnt c**e in her mouth.....
  18. Series 3, thanks for all your help guys :) would this work if i got another blank blade cut for it? or would i need a master key to programme over it? Ebay link sorry just re-read your post, it is 2am thanks That ad dont say if it has a transponder in it, but I would imagine that it has, probably a good idea to contact the seller and ask him. But if you do get it then yes you would need a blank case as well, but they are not too expensive. You should not need a master key to program the new key as there are usually ways to program the keys without the master, just find the correct programming instructions for your 95 (try the ones on those links I posted, without using master key, first. You never know one may work and save you looking around.).
  19. Look for a local refrigeration engineer, or even better an auto refrigeration engineer. Expect to pay £40 to £60 for a regas. Dont know if all kwik fit`s are the same, but I wouldnt trust my local one with a pushbike.
  20. If the keys have buttons for locking and unlocking the doors then they are transponder keys. If one or more also has a button for opening the boot then quite possibly that could be a master key. If you dont have either, then a blank key with a transponder can be bought from E-Bay, just type in Lexus 3 button, you would then need to have the key cut at a place that have a laser cutter, and then just follow the instructions for programming it for the car. Its an easy job to do, I had to do one when I lost the key for my old LS400. There are a couple of keys on E-Bay at the moment for auction, if you buy a used key then you would have to buy a blank shell key as well, then just transfer the electronics into the blank, have it cut and program it. Either option is cheaper than getting one from Lexus. :shutit:
  21. All you need should be here: http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/ind...key+programming Here: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...showtopic=21124 Here: http://www.toy-lex.com/programming.html And Here: http://www.toy-lex.com/97LS400keyprogramming.html Unless the programming is different for a 95. If the dash lights are going dim then that suggests a flat battery, try charging it before you start programming the key, else you could be there a long time...
  22. Not exactly. What we call "warped discs" isnt a very good description. What is actually happening, is a transfer of material from the pad to the disc, and when enough material is deposited (which isnt a lot) the surface of the disc becomes uneven and the pedal jumps up and down. Because an auto uses its brakes more than a manual, the discs get hotter, and more material is transfered, and the less engine braking, the higher the heat. You are correct that it is good practice to take you foot off the brake pedal after a high speed stop and not to use the emergency brake, but in reality on a busy road, this cannot always be practical. Read more here: http://www.stoptech.com/tech_info/wp_warped_brakedisk.shtml
  23. My LS430 brakes work fine for a big heavy car. You have to realise that the LS has next to no engine braking, so all the stopping power comes from the brakes themselves. This is why a lot of LS`s have had replacement discs fitted, because they have to do so much work they warp quickly. Mine had a set of discs fitted before I bought it, and it had done just 69000 miles. I replaced the discs on my old LS400 while I had it, and again, that had only done about 80000. If your other cars are manuals or are auto`s with better engine braking then this could factor in it. If the brakes are so bad that they scare you, then its time to have a look to see if anything is wrong. Small pointer, I was passing a line of traffic coming the other way on a straight bit of road near to where I live. It is a road that I know well and to be honest, I wasnt hanging about. As I reached the start of the line, a womble in a BMW pulled out to overtake said line of cars, and I can safely state that the ABS works well at 80MPH. So if you hit the pedal hard at high speed and the ABS dont cut in, then there is definately something wrong.
  24. Just had a look on E-Bay to see what the price of a new sensor is, they aint cheap. However the one that is fitted to the LS400 looks to be the same as a few other Toyota cars, such as the Supra Turbo and the Camry Just type in LS400 maf, and you will see what I mean. They results are from the USA and the prime supplier lists some of the symptoms of a bad sensor as: -Loss of torque/horsepower (Doesn't pull like it used to). -Misfires (lean). -Some jerking motion when accelerating. -The engine shakes and may rattle. -The engine shuts down when idling. -Sometimes the check engine light comes on or blinks. -Low gas mileage! Sound familiar? May be a good idea to find the part number get on the phone to the local scrappys to see if they have one, More likely to have one off a Toyota than a Lexus. If you can get one cheap and it works, then you can always make the decision to get a new one, instead of shelling out for a new one and finding its still the same.
  25. If the hole is in the well on the left, then I would imagine that this would be classed as part of the boot floor, if it is then its doubtful if it is structural. You can do a better repair than a bit of plate and some pop rivets though. If its in a fairly flat bit, then what about rounding out the hole with the dremil and shoving in a rubber grommit? if you can get one big enough. The car hasnt got a towbar, so if you fitted one, you could run the electrics through there and make it look like the hole was deliberate.
