  1. Agree with you Chris....I have now driven an LS400 mk4...and whilst I was impressed I wouldn't trade my 430 for it. Also I have bad news ... I did tempt fate...I notice one of the wheel nuts has gone missing....I should have checked them afteri had the four Tyres replaced last year! Anyone know where I can source ONE WHEEL NUT? Thanks.
  2. Hi all Just thought I give an update on my LS430.....good news nothing more has gone wrong!...am still going to get the car refurbished as Pepe has done with his ancient 400s.... Will rake photos before and after and post them here ... Driving it is still a pleasure...a great cabin. So those of you who are considering buying one, I would still recommend one..I think I was unlucky with some of the early glitches...probably a Friday model...but so far no more problems! Hope am not tempting fate... Still saving for an LS 460 next ..don't want anything else....
  3. Hi matt-c Sorry about the confusion...I haven't involved my insurance company because I chose to have the screen replaced even though it wasn't cracked or in any other way defective other than having a lot of pock marks which made driving when sun in your face extremely difficult... I shouldn't have even mentioned it! Secondly.. Re show room standard , I have had this LS430 for about 7 yrs and it's now 10 yrs old. I wish to have it refurbished so that it could see me out! I am thinking of spending a few quid ( at most £5k ) in doing this rather than replacing it.... Thanks
  4. Thanks again matt-c When I contacted AG , they double checked the windscreen had rain sensor on it. The screen is obviously one supplied by AG and not Lexus.... But I am not sure why the original sensor was discarded...seems very strange! You would think AG would know the routine and have trained fitters. I will be in contact as and when they come to repair or replace the sensor!...if it has to go to Lexus dealer for ECU to recognise the new sensor then AG can cover the cost as far as I am concerned. I paid for this job myself and have not involved my insurance company..because I was worried about safety! You have been very illuminating...just goes to show how much we folks depend on expertise such as yours. Do you by any chance bring LEXUS LS models up to show room standard! If not I have a lead from Pepe of a certain mr Hill...and will be contacting him when I recover from my minor surgery. Best regards Shines
  5. Hi Matt-C Thanks a lot for your post! I am now really confused as to why the Autoglass fitter actually chiselled the old sensor out and discarded it and put in a new one which is actually quite big and much uglier than the original Lexus one...strange if the original could have worked and reused! I will contact AG but do not wish to get the fitter in trouble....but I shall print your post and hand it him if he's the one they send back to fix the problem....when I put the wipers on to Auto they stay on as if on the intermittent mode....annoying to say the least! How come all the people who could be helpful to us Lexus owners in Buckinghamshire ...all live miles away! Thanks Shiner
  6. Hi Pepe I wish I had checked out this forum before having my original Lexus windscreen replaced...might have had it polished by Glas Weld.... BTW the Autoglass fitter said he never looks forward to replacing Lexus windscreen as they are so well put in the first place , they are a pain to take out.....as indeed was the case... Best regards Shiner
  7. Hi Pepe I had my ls430 windscreen changed by Autoglass...they quoted £405 but the final cost was just under £400. No insurance claims as I had it replaced because the million or so pock marks and it was dangerous to drive when the sun was low and in your face. The only trouble is the rain sensor they fitted hasn't worked but they will fix it..... A great service. And I highly recommend them. Stay well away from fraud...just not worth it ! Shiner
  8. Hi John Here's another source... www.toyodiy.com On their website put in your Vin or Frame number and they will provide you with both colour code and 'trim'code.... Hope that might help.... Shiner
  9. Check this out....I used to own an oven on which the door used to disappear and was designed for disabled people who were wheelchair bound....but this is really appealing...alas Lexus is not using these door yet! http://www.flixxy.com/high-tech-car-door.htm Shiner
  10. Hi Alex Didn't mean to frighten you...but you should buy this car with your eyes open. The way I rationalised keeping it was that when I started to worry about its age ,10,yrs, I thought I should replace it with LS460....the prices are beyond what I am prepared to pay! So I thought I'll keep mine and spend the money as and when things go wrong...that way I should still be ahead in the long run! Also reading a post from Pepe really got me sorted who bought an old LS400 for a song and then spent (invested?) £5000 on it to turn an ugly duckling to a showroom beauty!...that's my plan in the new year too.... Despite what might go wrong ..they are great cars to drive! So take the plunge but do your checking first Merry Xmas to you all and thanks to those who have helped me and of course others! A great forum Hoping for a cracking 2014...at least there's no Ashes matches in that year! Cheers
  11. Hi Alex I own a lexus ls430....it's a great car and pleasure to drive! But things go wrong..look at my thread is LS430a good value....you'll see what went wrong with mine. I strongly recommend that you buy the car with 12 months warranty or be prepared to spend big bucks when things go wrong! Cruise mark has covered most worrying aspects...but in addition Oxygen sensors fail for no reason, Height sensors are expensive to fix , wing mirrors are prone to stop working for no reason and the reversing camera is very...VERY expensive to fix...but is not really necessary..as you have the parking sensors. I have had almost all of these things fixed and am now really enjoying the car! Mine is coming up to 10 yrs old but there's no sign of any rust...May be I am just lucky! Whatever you decide the car is brilliant to drive and very comfortable!
  12. That's very interesting Michael. They are still well beyond my means...but one day! I like the idea of follow on cruise control and let the driver in front do all the hard work! Cunning! Shiner
  13. Hello Simon Thanks. As and when you are ready to part with yours let me know...I might have saved enough by then to be able to afford it. For me 17mpg is not a big issue as I only drive around 3000miles per year and it would be my second car for sheer pleasure! For the rest of the time I usually run around in Toyota Yaris...which is not great but very handy for the short journeys. Yes and I agree what a magnificent animal! Shiner
  14. Michael Thanks for wanting to share your experience....I want to know what the owners think of these cars by way of the driving experience..whether they have encountered troubles like those of us who own LS430..or they are a joy to own and reliable!... would you recommend them? Thanks. shiner
  15. So what was included in the 100k service?..if this included the change of cam belt and water pump and tensioners...then that is a bargain price....or does the LS460 have a chain cam unlike the LS430! Having been directed in the right direct by members here, I had both the front and back brake pads changed on my LS430 with ferodo premier by a local garage all for £160!
  16. Chris Go and see your local citizens advice bureau...they have lawyers who give their time for free!..if that doesn't work ask Which the consumer organisation...they have a legal service for very reasonable prices... The garden centre should not and must not in any way tamper with the CCTV footage...else they will be committing a crime....just make sure you have noted the names of people you spoke to and the fact that they confirmed the there is CCTV footage on the day of the incident! I am not a lawyer but my lawyer is a Rottweiler! And expensive unfortunately...so always my last resort! Good luck
  17. If you see my post titled is LS430 good value....you'll see that Lexus dealers charge £270 to replace the inner sensor! ....but some members have sourced their lexus parts from this website www.amayama.com I haven't used it myself but am considering ordering 'rear monitor display &camers'...reversing camera to you and me mate! Someone in USA took revenge by having a tonne of ready mixed concrete delivered to the other party's front door...I am not suggesting you do the same !
  18. Hi Tulpen Just in case you didn't know, the LS460 was voted the World Car of the Year back in 2007! Hope it gives you years of pleasure...I too hope to own one when a one , with the right owner credentials comes along! Shiner
  19. Hi Lexmanic Sorry I upset you ....didn't mean to! Being snooty is not my aim...
  20. So what are you trying to prove Lexmanic? The question is can one get a new number plate for their car from Halfords or not!...clearly the answer is yes! End of! I am amazed at the energy you have for this simple topic!
  21. I find it very curious that there are very few , if any , posts by owners of these cars!( LS460 or LS600h ) What does that mean? Does anyone own them? Or is there nothing to be shared about them whether good or bad! Very strange! And absolutely no help to those aspiring to upgrade , Perhaps they have taken heed of all the advice given by the LS400 owners not mention the good news, in case others want to join in?!!..... Are we being kept in the dark? Come on ...tell us Shiner
  22. Re the number plates... I suspect Halfords know what they are doing..so no worries there....
  23. Ok guys, after reading Pepe 's examples of buying his ls400s and getting them to showroom standard ...that's what I have decided to do with my LS430. I am also going to have it assessed for all things that might need fixing and have them fixed! It's not even 10 yr old.the Cabin is just fantastic place to be! For those of you who are with ,for damn good reasons it would appear, LS400s. my suggestion would be to buy another one for about £700 pounds or so to use as spare parts provider when the time comes...If I had the space that's what I would do! Or they will become expensive to maintain....just a thought
  24. PEPE you have been more than helpful Thanks a million! You have really inspired me and instead of thinking of changing my 430 to 460 I am going to do what you did. You have saved me a lot of bother and investment in the 460. I have had the spark plugs changed recently and so should be ok for next 60000 miles that means for my remaining life! Cam belt was also done but they ( the Lexus dealer ) did not change the water Pump or the tensioners..I hand' realised I should have requested that ! Do you think I should have that done from safety point of view and of course peace of mind! Also have four brand new tyres Bridgestones in my case. I will be calling John next week and do I mention your name as Jose or Pepe? For introducing him to me....when the car is due for major service next year I shall have him replace hoses etc and replace all the filters including the cabin ...I can source a reversing monitor from from www.amayama.com for either 860 euros from Tokoyo or 335 euros from UAE...it just takes longer from UAE. And hopefully John can install it. I will take photos before and after and post them when all done and dusted. Your cars look absolutely fantastic and I am looking forward to having mine do the same! Thanks again Shiner
