  1. What was the cause then of it packing in? Was it going to eventually......... or was it my mistake to load it with 6 discs - usually I tend to eject tlistened to discs immediately and so have around 3 max in the player?
  2. Where would I go for a Track Day locally? How much is it on average?, do you bring your own car or what, is it 'dangerous' especially if all you have is a standard driving license? How far in advance do you have to book? Good sites for information? Thanks in advance.
  3. It's the bottom loader version - ..............now if it is bust then (1) how much does a replacement unit cost and (2) will the Lexus Service Dealer be able to get the 6 discs out which are still stuck in :-(
  4. I've been lucky in that I've never had a problem with the 6 disc CD player except a couple of times when the ERR3 message appeared and I just turned off the system and turned it on again and it was fixed! Also I've tried to not always have 6 discs in at once in case I get this error message (I'm not sure if this is a reason why this happens?)...... anyway if I recall correctly I was ejecting a disc (all 6 discs were loaded) and I accidently turned off the system and I think that was the cause... because now whenever I turn on the system I get the radio frequency displayed and pressing CD it for a microsecond displays ERR3 and then goes back to the radio frequency display! I can't eject any discs either. Do you have any tips or do I have to get it replaced :-(???
  5. For some reason or another - I'm not convinced by it at the moment, however is there any news on further updates / tweaks probably at the end of its lifecycle.... for that matter is there any news on what the 3rd gen IS will be like?

  7. I find it hard to resist to change the gear - my left hand can't keep still! Hence when approaching a turn, etc I like to shift down from D to 3 or 2. The only advantage is that I have no 'fear' of stalling and don't have to concentrate too much on the clutch as there is no clutch! I.e. it's easy to drive when I want to drive it easy but sometimes I wish I could have gear control and more left hand action! Could all this shifting have a long term effect on the car? Not good for mpg I guess?
  8. Haynes glovebox guide - your car: page 20 Top TEN money saving tips 1.Don't buy a brand new car; buy year old or ex-demonstrator ---------- Lexus cars don't have too many options but if you were to buy a BMW or Audi it could be very hard to get the exact spec you could get if you bought it brand new. Obviously the main pro is the cost - it's much cheaper but then you don't know the complete "history" of the car - you weren't with the driver - that might bother someone... Also I don't understand why people don't just buy Japanese - most reliable as such - e.g. why bother with some European makes which always come bottom in the customer satisfaction surveys?
  9. I don't see many cars these days come with sunroof as a standard fit? BMWs you have to select that option. In any case what do you prefer to use the A/C or sunroof? BTW, how come Lexus didn't make the sunroof standard on the 2nd gen IS250/220d? Cost cutting or what?
  10. http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/ind...showtopic=59486 have a look at this thread please. See more at www.autoexpress.co.uk
  11. At number 29 Lexus IS (old i.e. IS200/300) but NUMBER 1 for Reliability and NUMBER 1 for Build Quality! whereas At number 18 Lexus IS (new) but reliability is number 33 and build quality is number 21 Q.E.D? What do you think? Or do you take these customer satisfaction surveys with a pinch of salt?
  12. Hi, How deep are the scratches? Got a similar problem scraped my rear bumper into a concrete post and also own a Lexus touch up kit. damage done: Gave the touch up kit a try the base coat was really thin and needs lots of coats. I will continue tomorrow, the more coats I do the better it looks. Will see the results then decide the next step. I will let you know if its successful but I have a feeling it will need a smart repair. Was it successful??? It's similar to yours ... it's a pretty deep 'scrape'. Using T-cut Colorfast scratch remover will not be enough will it? Anything in this section of the Halfords website under Body Repair: http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/...65740_langId_-1 I was in Halfords the other day and was thinkig of getting one of those Halfords kits for Toyota's colours (Lexus aren't stocked) http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/...65580_langId_-1 Two pen kit containing: * Primer and Touch-up paint with brush and pen nib applicators * Glass fibre brush to clean out any loose material from scratches and chips Halfords Stone Chip and Scratch Repair Systems OR Would I use body filler? I was nearly going to buy this from Halfords: "Halfords Plastic Scuff & Scrape Repair Kit" but the online review says it's rubbish! The easy and affordable way to repair plastic bumpers using professional materials and techniques. http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/...yId_165492#dtab A bit confusing!!!
  13. Thing is, if you 'glue' it back on for cosmetic / visual reasons maybe using superglue (?) you will not be able to use it - because when you press the washer button it will be stuck? So how do you get over that???? The other headlight washer will wash the headlight though....
  14. What's the science behind this? Sounds silly because if you read a newspaper your hands are black afterwards and anything you touch leaves a black smudge!
  15. Occured to me today in fact that it's lockable - some cars don't have this feature! Is there any point? Do you lock your glovebox? I know it's a bit of a lame query! Just wondering.... or it's better to store valuables in the boot..........
  16. Very cheap looking and horrible 'design' - anything you place in it moves about - useless!!!??? What do you put in yours? Edited: I mean above the center vents - you have it only if you have no sat nav fitted.....
  17. In the paper recently there was an article about people being caught out / forgetting that the photocard part of the driving license expires after 10 years and the fact you have to renew it! Having a discussion at work; a team mate checked his and it was for 4 years and not 10 - how is this possible? Surely all photocards are the same time??? http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/Drive...cence/DG_078070 http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/Drive...nsing/DG_068315
  18. I take it other Lexus models (LS and GS) must have but BMWs, Mercedes, Audis, etc didn't have them as standard. Even today BMWs I believe for instance have the multi disc changer in the boot which isn't as user friendly as having it in-dash??? But to have a 6 disc CD + tape (!) as standard must have been a WOW factor in 1999!
  19. Since it came out in the UK May 1999 (?) it would be T-reg - have you had yours for 10 years? If you have you've probably got a good chance of being the longest owner! What problems have you had?
  20. If suppose the car gets broken into or stolen - having the booklet in the glove box (as the booklet states) with the policy number written in it- would it be useful for the thief? Also carrying your driving license photocard in your wallet/purse is a good idea? Or safer at home? You have 7 days to show it to the police if they require you to? But you might get mugged or it gets misplaced...? Pros and cons please?
  21. Just reading this board people seem to have more problems with their IS250/220d than people have with their IS200/300. What do you think? More complex car --> so more chance of reliability issues?
  22. It'd look quite good on an IS don't you think - with Audi's LED daytime running lights on the roads these days people who'd see an IS with KITT's red light bar would think what is that! Would the police be happy though?
  23. Surely it must be hard to drive at the right speed when its not straight in front of you!? Don't you get neck ache turning your head to the left all the time?
  24. Somehow the Sport is little OTT - I don't like the spoiler and I think the Sport internal extras are a bit too 'cheesy'. What do you think? I like the SE without the Sport additions!
  25. Scraped the rear bumper corner against a wall and phoned around getting a quote of £100. However, I have the full tin of touch-up paint so could I just paint brush that on - would I have to 'smooth' the surface first?
