  1. Are you sure it's the barrel ? My father in laws LS had a similar problem where there car would cut out whilst driving along, wiggle the keys and would fire back into life, turned out to be the ignition switch which is screwed to the bottom of the barrel itself. It's only plastic and wears, once ignition key is inserted it engages into this switch then turns when key turns, if this has worn or fallen apart inside may be preventing ignition key turning, just a thought. Held on by two screws and elec plug. Less than £50 for genuine part direct from Japan.

  2. I replaced mine recently and after phoning my nearest Lexus dealership they gave me a price and as they own my local Toyota garage they arranged for me to pick it up there. When I went to pick it up the guy said pity you didn't just come in , you could of had the same Battery for the MR2 roadster for a lot less, but as I paid already it was to late. So in future will just get one for a MR2 roadster and save some cash.

I own both a MR2 and RX and they are the same.

  3. Me also, looked at several at a few Lexus dealers before I bought mine some where we'll beat up for huge money. Leeds, Derby, Norwich, finally bought mine from Lexus Hatfield whilst going to look at one and bought another as the one I looked at first wasn't,t great. Another area to check for corrosion is the roof rails, had mine powder coated when had my wheels done.

  4. Hi mate had mine 5 years now and it's been superb, only thing I've had to do was get the wheels refurbed as they tend to corrode badly, Lexus replaced mine even when they were out of warranty but I had to get them done again . I think as long as it's got full service history then mileage doesn't seem a problem. Mines only used occasionally so low miles at 45k but some I know have done well into the 100,000 + with no probs. try and get a SEL spec as you get DVD screens and all extras. Done a 200 mile trip last week and averaged 36 mpg . Oh and very quick for a large lump.

  5. Nice looking car, think they are DHP wheels aren't they?

Interested to see what it fetches, also wonder what the reserve is.

According to the description they are 430 wheels.

Definitely not 430 wheels. It seems to have Lexus history up to 2004 only which seems a bit odd. Unless Old Market Garage in Beccles is a main dealer?
I can assure you old market garage in Beccles is not a main dealer, Beccles 5 miles from me in suffolk, can,t really recall anything other than a handful of cars for sale from small back street out fit type. Not even sure if they are still there.
  6. The inlaws LS400 has now got a fault with the electric aerial. It will go up ok but motor will run for a few seconds after fully extended and then when you turn it off the motor works but the aerial will not go down unless you just tap top of aerial with your hand then down it goes. Had it apart and a bit dry inside so greased up and put back but still the same. I'm thinking I may get away with just replacing the mast and plastic cord as was thinking it's the last bit of the cord which seems worn, any advice appreciated please.

  7. Yep, if I can do it so can you. Just remove the lower dashboard panel, make sure you locate all the screws/bolts. The small cover around the ignition switch itself where key inserts needs to be removed, just pops out then screw beneath there to remove. I pulled any electrical connector off the lower panel just to give me more room . The air ducked then pulls out a bit tight . Then there is two small wire connectors which slide on to the side of the switch you are going to remove, these slide off and fit back to new switch. One large connector to remove off switch then that leaves the two small phillips screws which hold switch in place. One screw not too bad to get too the other a bit tricky, you will need a small short screwdriver or a flexi drive so you can get on it. Once screws removed it will slide down and you can fit new one.

Just need to be flexible, lay on back and look up, a light is a good idea also.

Hope this of some help. Good pictures on this post from previous help I recieved.

  8. Well finally got switch yesterday after being stuck in customs, opened box only to find switch had come apart in the sealed packet ! Ball bearings brass rings etc. spent a while and managed to rebuild and clip back together, fitted this morning, 10 mins to fit and 30 mins to remove / fit dashboard. Tried seems to work ok only time will tell if cured the intermittent cutting out, have told the in laws to let me know how it goes and have sent amayama an email explaining condition it arrived in as was well packed so must of been placed into box like that.

  9. My 5th gear assembly I got from them for my Rav 4 cost me £34.00 delivery and HMRC charged me £64 charges, but saved a packet still with Toyota uk wanting £523 for parts, my total cost was £286.All genuine parts in toyota packaging.

My ignition switch is still sitting at Coventry and has been before xmas, says its processed and import charge applies, still waiting for letter to see how much. Total so far LS ignition switch £29.69

if you want to speed thins up you can ring them and pay over the phone without having to wait for the letter

you just need the tracking number

Thanks for that will give them a call.
