  1. hey so i got a reply of jvc, the first time they replied they weren't really sure if it would work here and then i emailed them back the specs of the model i had been looking at and the reply was that they don't have any information on the latest american models so they can't be of any further help, and the only info they had was on last years models, how can a company not know their own products and the latest ones at that, i work for ibm in software and there are literally thousands of products and i am constantly updated on the latest products and i am not even a specialist
  2. Ahh, my bad should have spotted that! Yep then stuff from the US must be quite well priced for you at the mo (and probably from the UK too I'd imagine) Yeah i was actually looking at it in the uk first but works out about 100 euro cheaper if i get it from the states including all the shipping costs, and so far its looking like it will work fine here, just waiting for a confirmation email
  3. Are you sure about that mate? With how weak the pound is at the mo a lot of stuff actually costs more in the US than it does over here........ Also frequencies aren't always an issue as you say, but although it will play ntsc and pal it will still most likely be region 1 coded for DVD (unless stated otherwise) so just something to be aware of. Yeah i am in Ireland so dealing with Euro's so its great for me at the moment, the pound and the dollar pretty weak so there is savings to be had everywhere

Amp Gain Switcher Amp Defeat Switch Wireless Remote Control with Easy-Grip Included was having a look through the specs, i dont think there would be any problems getting the jvc from the states, the frequencies can be changed to european which i just found out can be a problem but no need to worry about that and the dvd player will play ntsc and pal so should be region free
  5. ah really, i hope it isn't the same for the jvc, hopefully will hear back soon, i know that jvc make region free dvd players so if the car dvd player is region free that is a good thing, just gotta see will it work in the car
  6. will hopefully have an answer soon, emailed jvc technical to see what they would say
  7. hey thanks for this, was very helpful, think i will go for the jvc, can get it from the states, with the weak dollar at the moment it works out at about that much, will there not be problems using a US stereo on a UK car?? i dunno why there should, but for some reason i seem to remember reading that on here somewhere?? could be me talking poop again, lol!! things like sat nav wouldn't work i'd guess? and dvd compatibility? the only thing i can think of is the dvd compatability, i need to find out if jvc lock their regions or if it can be changed, not sure about sat nav's, i know a few friends have picked up sat nav's in the states and they have just upgraded the software on them to use over here,
  8. hey thanks for this, was very helpful, think i will go for the jvc, can get it from the states, with the weak dollar at the moment it works out at about that much,
  9. It's a damn sight cheaper and XBMC has a lovely GUI that's perfect for car pc's - and makes great use out of the slightly lackluste CPU of the ol' Xbox You'd be suprised, prices are tanking on that end of the head unit market at the moment - Pioneer and Kenwood brought out FAR to many models in the space of 2-3 years and the DNX-7200's getting on in the grand scheme of things, but still does everything I need it to - Satnav, bluetooth, video ipod connectivity, DVD, reversing cam http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Kenwood-DNX-7200-Sat...%3A1|240%3A1318 Try watching that one and see what it ends up shifting for, I could be wrong of course! I would have a clue how to do the car pc, maybe with a bit of research, the kenwood looks very nice, gonna keep my eye on that one,
  10. Yeah i am have been mooching around aswell but was completely lost so decided to post this and hopefully get a better idea, not sure on the price of the kenwood, they are saying on the website it has been replaced by a newer unit, i know the jvc one is about 800 euro but I can get it for about 420, looking for something that will play dvd's, cd's decent radio, has bluetooth for my phone, i can hook my ipod touch up to to play video, the jvc has all this, would just need one extra cable to play video of the ipod, I am just not sure if they are any good and what people's past experiences have been with jvc or if there is better alternatives with all the same functionality
  11. DNX-7200 ? http://www.justkenwood.co.uk/stock01/dnx7200.asp Can't fault mine, although if I could do it all over again I'd probably just car-pc it, chipped xbox running XBMC or linux really? what would the advantages of doing it that way be?
  12. hey I am planning on getting a new headunit on thursday, looking for a double din, have around 400-450 euro to spend so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, I was looking at the JVC KW-AVX820
  13. I'm not sure if there is even a drag strip here, I think there might be one up north, I know a company organised drag races a few years ago but not sure were they held them,
  14. I would love to get on a track and see what sort of times I could get for 0-60 and lap times, but the only track days here are in Mondello and generally full of muppets
  15. hey just wondering what people's fastest times are at 0-60? i just did it in 9 secs and I am sure I can do better than that
  16. bulbs for the dash arrived today, so will be sticking them in once i get home, will take pics along the way and put them up, my light strips for the footwells will be here next week so will doing the same once they arrive
  17. as asi said no nuts or screws, just have to remember the clips, i forgot about them on one light and spent ages trying to pull the bloody thing apart till i realised it.
  18. hey, will it definitely not fit in the oven? i have managed to squeeze them into some very small ovens, its not actually too risky taking them apart, once you have the oven set at about 120 degree's celsius it will be fine, put them in for about 10-15 mins, if you can raise them off the bottom so they get heated all over, then when you take them out you will need oven gloves but using a screwdriver you can start prising it apart and then using your hands you can pull the rest, just make sure to pop all the clips before pulling it
  19. I'm a going camping, can't wait, wont be doing any work on the car as still waiting on all the lights i have ordered to arrive
  20. Ahh did that work? I thought about that but wasn't sure if it wasn't wide enough, or if the LEDs would be visible (would like them to be completely hidden) Cheers, pics would be great :D They are completly hidden, can't see them unless your head is in the footwell lol. There is plenty space and also a lip to put the wires in to keep them out the way of your feet brilliant, now i just gotta order my new headunit, bring on payday!!
  21. Yep was planning on putting in one for each strip.......wiring should be straight forward, on the positive just stick the fuse and the diode between the supply and the strip :) Where did you actually mount it? Did you stick it to where it has those plastic ridges? Do you have any pics? yeah pics of just were ya mounted them would be good, i gotta fix my soldering iron actually now that i think of it
  22. think i am gonna try a few different methods and see what works the best and also do a walkthrough, hopefully i remember, i get excited when bits arrive for the car and just dive straight in and forget to take pictures
  23. ah thats the ones i was looking at, will have to pick some up during the week, are you just wiring in 2, one on each light circuit, i am gonna have to pull out my notes from school, its been a long time since i wired up a circuit
  24. yeah i will do, gonna have a look after work and see what i can come up with, is it just a normal diode for rectification you are using?
  25. Cool, it's a bit annoying under there as it's not really a flat surface......... had you any idea's for sticking it up, is there something it could be zip tied onto?
