  1. I am sure someone with a 430 will be along to help. The diff fluid is the differential and should be changed every 20k and looks like that has been the case. The valve clearance should be checked every 53k too.
  2. I remember the program. QW said the LS400 was the best car in the World except it was bland looking and didn't have that "im the best car in the World" look, nothing to say "Im pure class" , the same 'je ne sais quoi of a Bentley. As for pushing the used price up, he did exactly the same with the Rolls Royce Shadow 11. I remembering my then local RR dealer saying about the QW effect in an article in our local paper. After the show they sold every used Shadow on their books and failed due to high demand to secure any further stock. The used value of the Shadow 11 shot through the roof after he showed that you could pick one up for the price of a new Sierra. I bet too that QW had a few on his forecourt !
  3. Funnily enough looking at the old water pump it did cross my mind :winky: Even Simon said the said thing, but its gone in the bin now.
  4. Took six hours for my man to fit a new cam belt, the idlers/tensioners and water pump. He said it was a straight forward job just a lot of stuff had to come off including the rad. Charged me £140 with Labour and for the special Toyota red coolant, so £335 all in with parts. The old cam belt looked like it could have easily done another 100k as did the water pump. No wonder a cam belt snap on a Lexus LS is unheard of, you could hoist the engine out with that belt ! He said one of the hardest things was actually re-filling the cooling system and with the ten minute idle run and 5 minutes at 2000 rpm then cool down it took nearly an hour Oh well peace of mind now for another 63k or six years.
  5. Manicmark.. I came across this old post http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/ind...showtopic=16355 Is the engine in the series four definitely interference ? Or is Colin Barber wrong ?
  6. Im not having the work done by lexus but by the chap who has looked after most of my cars for the past twenty odd years. However it should be on his system so will let you know. Im actually having the idlers and water pump changed at the same time, but going back to main dealer advice. When I inquired at Lexus Exeter about my cambelt change the service guy couldn't understand why I would want the idlers and water pump changed on a cam belt service ? It was certainly not part of the scheduled cam belt change service on their system and their quote for doing the lot was a staggering £700 !! If I remember correctly ? Perhaps somebody would like to clarify this by getting a quote from their local Lexus dealer ?
  7. Can I ask if you had this dead sensation/serious pins and needles gpoing into your fingers or did it stop at your wrist ? Hi, Right down into my hand and finger tips.
  8. Well thank you.. It wasn't really that hard but your acumen is very much appreciated. Personal opinion ? We should all abide by the law.
  9. The legality of every speed camera introduced on British roads since 1992 is being challenged in court. Aitken Brotherston is challenging a speeding conviction in a legal test case Lawyers in a test case are arguing the law has been wrongly implemented by successive home secretaries and all devices authorised in the last 17 years are illegal. A ruling on the case is expected to be made on Wednesday by a panel of one judge and two lay magistrates at Manchester Crown Court. It could pave the way for an avalanche of challenges to speed camera convictions from millions of motorists, in which an estimated £600 million was collected in revenue. Retired computer engineer Aitken Brotherston, 61, of Lymm, Cheshire, has brought the hearing on appeal after he was convicted of driving 52mph in a 40mph zone. Mr Brotherston said he "firmly believed" the LTI 20/20 Speedscope laser gun which captured his speed provided an inaccurate reading. Defence barrister Michael Shrimpton said each home secretary since Michael Howard had effectively set up their own scheme of ministerial approval and were wrong to pass such devices as the LTI 20/20 without parliamentary scrutiny. Previously they approved the technical evaluation of a named speed camera but now were rubber-stamping equipment which was not identified before Parliament, he said. But Andrew Perry, prosecuting, told the court that the change in the 1988 Road Traffic Offenders Act in 1991 had not left Parliament out of the loop. Judge Jonathan Gibson said the appeal panel members would make their decision only on the facts put before them and not on any mooted implications.
  10. Ok I have had a very quick reply from CTP Dear Mark, These discs are sent directly by our supplier to you, we don't see them. Firstly the Nav Discs should be sent by Royal Mail Special Delivery costing us around £6 (that's what we are invoiced for) we charge everything under 10 kilos at £9.49 fixed rate. Secondly you should have received an Original Disc with Original Booklet, could you please email me a picture of what you have received ? We have certainly paid for Originals, and if we have not had them supplied then i need evidence so i can take issue with our supplier. I have not had a complaint about these discs before, and we have supplied a lot of them via this supplier , the last one that was returned to us due to non-delivery certainly was Original with Original Booklet. Ok I have to give them the benefit of the doubt for now, will however keep you informed.
  11. If thats the case then I might as well sell `em myself ! If anybody wants a really cheap copy PM me !
  12. I recently purchased the 2007/08 Sat Nav update CD for my car from www.Cheaptoyotaparts.co.uk the cost was £128.49 including p&P What I got was nothing short of a rip off , a cheap copy of the original CD alongside a separate booklet. This was posted to me in an A4 bubble wrap envelope with £1.24 in postage on it... They charged me £9.49 ! Yep thats it ! All for just £128.49 Ooops...Sorry doesn't include the jewel case ! Off to trading standards tomorrow.
  13. I actually paid £2900 with 12 months tax, 12 months Mot and full Lexus history up to Nov 2008. The previous owner who was only the second owner of the car ( he purchased it at just 14 months old)and I would say was in his late seventies, had full documented history with the car, However he had written quote from Lexus Bristol for £340 for the cam belt change but was told it didn't need changing on this model until 100k ? He was also American and was moving back to the states so perhaps he thought leave it to the next owner " Me ! " I am having it done including water pump this Friday.
  14. Its also worth remembering that of all cars its the luxury market that takes the biggest hits. This is because people who can afford to buy new luxury cars do just that, buy new. This means from new price the cars take a huge nose dive in depreciation as the dealers try and tempt those of a lesser status to part with their cash. Luxury cars make for excellent value, I paid just £3k for a mint 98` LS400 series 4 with full Lexus SH and just 86k on the clock. The rear of the car hasn't even been sat in !And it still wafts of new leather. So what else could I have have bought for £3k ? I don't even need to go there.
  15. What the hell ! A politician screwing an unsuspecting member of the public ? Thats outrageous !
  16. Now snowing quite bad here in South Devon. I hope its not too bad I have to drive over to the sunny English Riviera at 5 to pick my son up !
  17. I drove the Lexus back from North Herefordshire yesterday evening ( twas snowing quite bad in Worcester )back down to South Devon. This is the first long journey I have had in the car and she behaved impeccably, in fact it was so quiet I had to stop myself nodding off on several occasions. But one thing I found is that despite all the multitude of position changes you can implement on the car, both steering and seat, my right arm kept going dead ? I just could not get it comfy. I do have quite a bad injury to this arm though, after a bike crash on New Years day 2000 and it does give me jip from time to time, but this was different. I was getting pins and needles all down the arm and had to keep stretching it out. Has anybody else encountered this ?
  18. Jellybean is spot on. Just ask yourself this ? What did the LS430 cost new and why ? It speaks for itself.
  19. On closer inspection you can see in fact that it is lacquer, man they must spray that stuff on thick ! It was coming away like a rim trim ! Anyway saving me pennies for a set of powder coated refurbs.
  20. I`m afraid DJDon is right. I had a Toyota Master Ace Surf people carrier which is also a grey Jap import. It failed its MOT on the ball joints, the parts ( about 6 years ago ) cost £490 ( the cheapest I could find ) imported direct from Japan. Toyota could get them for £599 with a six week shipping time ! To put it into perspective the same year my Granada Estate also failed its MOT on ball joints...£9 yes £9 a piece to replace ! I learnt my lesson big time and got shot, grey imports may look great but when they go wrong can be a complete nightmare and a huge financial headache.
  21. Cheers Pete, I was thinking more along the lines of replacing the multi player thats hidden in the upper glove compartment. Just wondering if this can be replaced and if the existing screen in the consul will see it ?
  22. Thanks Mark, No this doesn't look like lacquer more like plastic that has been molded to the wheels to protect them, but I may be wrong ? It had started to come away on the said wheel and like a pillock I peeled it back ! Can you give me some more details on this recall ? I just telephoned Lexus Exeter and they say there has never been a wheel recall by Lexus ?
  23. I was looking at those in Halfords, the new ones can read double layer DVD`s so around 8000 songs on a single disc !! Now I want one even more. I dont mind if I have to make up a bracket to replace the multi player CD unit and then fit a new head unit in its place. The only thing is, I wonder how it would be seen by the screen unit , if at all ? And if the connectors on the back of the Lexus CD unit are standard ?
  24. The original title got edited by the mods. It actually said stupid Idiot ( using cartoon style expletives ) they for some unknown reason changed it to TRIMS :tsktsk: I'm actually referring to the plastic that was used to cover and protect the wheels not the centre caps.
  25. About my old car is the CD player that could also read MP3/WMA formats. It was a JVC and I could burn around 700 tracks onto a CDR meaning I only needed to carry four CD`s in the car, and have all the music I wanted. Is it possible to remove the CD unit from my 98 LS400 and replace it with a stand alone CD head unit with mp3 capability ? Or wouldn't this work ? Or better still does anybody make a replacement unit that can read mp3 cd`s ? Cheers Mark.
