  1. guys, i just went and checked my boot.. and cannot locate the springs.. all i can see is a cable that runs from the boot to the back of the seats...and no rod with black ends which are filled with gas...shown in this pic http://uk.rs-online.com/web/search/searchB...t&R=234-449
  2. thnaks mate - really appreciate it. quick one - are these gas yes? not spring? as i understand you can get them in 2 types..
  3. is it as straight forward as just brasso on cloth and just keep rubbing till it clears up??? how long does it roughly take? thanks
  4. hi mate, it was the Reading dealership that i spoke with... and i just cross referenced the info these guys provided with the Oxford Lexus... they both said the same thing.. its not advisable at all to move from a car that always had semi synthetic to fully synthetic as this will damage certain components within the engine... (apologies...as im not techniocal enough to remember what it will actually affect) so there we have it.,.. im more confused than before... lol although i spoke of whether if the engine was flushed and then the fully synthetic put in... he said this would take most of the old oil out so would be better... thoughts? Abbas - earlier in this thread you mentioned moving to fully synthetic silkolene (which is what i want to do) - can i ask.. was your car running on semi synthetic before you started with the fully synthetic stuff...did you have to flush the engine out? do anything extra before the oil change? the last thing i want is to change the oil with the intention of improving engine and ending up with more damage... thats a no no.. REALLY appreciate your advice..oilman and Abbas and everyone else..
  5. just come off the phone to lexus - they advise that the car be run on a 5w 30semi synthetic oil.. as the climate in this country suits it fine.. we dont have extreme hot or cold weather.. also mentioned if the car has had semi synthetic all its life then switching to a fully synthetic can be damaging to the engine !?!?! would u guys agree?
  6. Hi Guy, i called your earlier (i think it was you i spoke with) re my lexus is200 and the Fuchs top of the range oil... I will be placing an order on your site very soon.. can you possibly send me the linkl to the Fuchs Silikon S 5w 30 oil.. ? i could not find it anywhere on the site :-( ta
  7. so whats the actual official name of the part that is required.. ? thanks
  8. i,ve just fitted a gas strut to mine to make open all the way. the springs lose their springiness ( if thats a word )over time ! AHH I see it must be the springs.. can these be replaced?
  9. interesting... im in 2 minds..cant decide between the fuchs or the castrol edge :-S
  10. guys, on the IS200, when you open the boot from below the seat or using the remote... is it suppose to just click and open but still remain closed or is the boot suppose to open like halfway up? ive just seen a is200 boot open about half way... but i noticed with mine.. all i hear is the opening click and it remains closed... any advice? maybe i need to fix something on mine? ta
  11. well i wanted to know if any IS200 sport drivers lived local to me... maybe its just me.. but i feel that with my car.. the drive just dnt seem right so wanted to know if anyone local can just test my car and see if they notice a difference.. basically first gear... and 2nd gear.. the engine starts to 'scream' at very early revs.. at like 2.5-3k revs.. i never even bother taking the revs to like 5k..as by then it just seems to me that i am really pushing the engine (from the sound of the engine).. can anyone shed some light/more info/advice? car is on 67k ...fsh... 2 owners.. so engine is fine.. but im not sure if this is just how a Lexus engine is.. just dnt seem right to me.. (previous car was a BMW.. and the engine just sounded a LOT better... even at the later revs... but like i said at 2-3k revs.. shoudl the engine be 'screaming'....i would have thought i would get a smooth 2ltr throaty type sound :-S thanks
  12. guys, most of us always talking of what we love in our cars.. but i want to know from all.. what they do NOT like in their IS200's and possibly what coudl be improved.. to start it off... i think the is200 should have had auto close windows... and the gearbox could have been much smoother (for me changing to 2nd and 3rd is not smooth) carry on fella's...... :winky:
  13. hi, As title states - who drives a is200 sport... can you please let me know.. i wanted to ask a couple of a questions.. thanks in advance

  16. That's a cargo net- you can slide stuff underneath it to stop things rolling around when driving- I've also got one, I slide my laptop bag underneath the net to stop it rolling all over when driving. I got my net from Lexus Birmingham's ebay shop for £10. brilliant...i think i could do with this cargo net.. i have so many car cleaning goods flying all over the place.. mate do you have any links to the ebay lexus site? cheers bud

  18. hi Aido, i've only just goit it washed from the jetwash place... they spray some chemical cleaner on the wheels... i guess that may be what it is........ but saying that they only put it on for a few mins and then rinse off :-S

  21. is it a big job to change all the belts?? surely not the same procedure to changing a cambelt???? i know that is not a small task.. wondering if its the same for the remainder or easier?
  22. Guys, i notcied my front alloys have a tint of yellow on them.. im guessing this is sign of corrosion? yes? any solutions for this? would i need to refurb the alloy or is there some sort of special alloy polish that can be used to get it back to silver again?? thanks guys
  23. you noticed an actual difference after the oil change?? really?? i didnt think an oil change would make a considerable difference in the performance of the engine :-S where and how much did yours cost Abbas?
  24. yes suprisingly it was.. but im more suprised after doing some searching on these forums.. how many people actually believe the IS200 DOES have tappets... maybe i should enrol on a mechanics course - my mechanical knowledge is PANTS! :-(
  25. take it back mate and soon.......could poss be an over tightened timing belt or a tensioner/pully ,nut, bolt slack or could be as simple as an over tightened p/a/s,a/c or a p/s belt too tight thanks Ormi.. i would be a little suprised if the belts are too tight etc..as the mechanic did check with his fingers how tight they were etc... also he is a very reputable and knwledable mechanic.... so im confused :-S
