  1. Some pictures as requested, thanks to Paul for some TSB's regarding water ingress, which i put to good use Remove the centre under floor plastic compartment, this is held in place by two black plastic clips either side of the compartment, you can grab this and pull up which will loosen the clips then you can remove them (press the buttons to flip up the floor to get the box up) Close up of clip & location These clips are reusable With centre box removed, looking towards offside of vehicle. Its these side compartments that need to come out as this is where the water was coming in. Remove the front bolts and rear nuts holding the flappy panels, i also removed the tool box just to do a bit of cleaning up. You can now remove the side compartments. Looking towards the rear panel from inside, you can see where the water has stained the sealant flowing in (the black smudges above the clip) Close up of under the side compartment, the water was pooling to the left just by the plastic clip After reading the TSB's, it was stated that RX's suffer from the seam cracking above the upper back door strut mounting Close up of the offending seam, you can see it is discolouring and cracked too. It only takes a pin hole for water to enter I cleaned and resealed these seams, water tested and bingo! no more swimming pools :) I just hope this helps someone else from major problems as have been revealed,
  2. Remove the centre rear storage box, which is held in by two black clips either side (these just pop out) You can then remove the two side stoarge boxes again held in with clips, it is under/behind these the water was coming in from. Thats pretty much all you need to do unless you have water coming in, in that case its a rear bumper off and go from there. It looks like ill be removing trims again, so this time i will take some pictures and put them up so its all clearer and hopefully helps
  3. Well i think i'm going to move to a dry country, Cars been fine the week or so since we sealed the seams and every other bloody plug hole in the rear end, but tonight i noticed the front screen has condensation inside, mainly due to the thing not being used today and the weather chucking it down off and on, took a look inside the rear after removing the tray and there is a small amount of water getting in somewhere on the offside rear still, I despair
  4. Simon any chance of a bigger view of that exploded parts diagram? I think I would like to check mine but I can't quite see from the diagram how it all comes apart. Or even, can you tell me if the parts diagram is available to buy or download anywhere? thanks Dan can you not click on it and download it? Try this one
  5. I am going to do the same and write to Lexus, got to be worth a try. Not sure about a oversight, but it certainly does seem to be a problem especially as there is a TSB for the exact problem Judging by the amount of Toyota vehicles we are getting in at the moment with water leaks into the cabin, (Aygo, Yaris and Auris currently) with the amount of rain recently i would urge people to check under sides of the rear compartment in there RX's Remove the trim (marked in red) remove all three compartments (marked in blue) get a torch and stick your head into the boot area and look back either side where the two side compartments were, you will see a seam going downward, that is where the water flows in!
  6. Hi all, Update to what is a long running saga. After replacing the lamp gasket I was still getting water in through somewhere at the back, it was parked up for two days, stripped down while the carpet was drying somewhere safe, I moved the car forward only to hear a huge 'slosh' of water running forward. Luckily I work for toyota so got into work for further proper inspection (we do lots of toyota aygos with water leaks, so figured my techs would know) After more stripping down of the boot interior trim and rear bumper we found the water was running in through the seams of the rear panel and quarter panels. But you as it is all double skinned you cannot see where the water was flowing. Eventually after lots of testing we found that the body sealant on the rear panel was cracking a had tiny pin prick holes letting water in, we resealed these and any grommet holes around the rear, refitted the rear bumper and tested again..........finally dry! Refitted the carpet(which had been dried outfor 2 weeks) all interior and its finally back on the road and good as new Paul my advise to you would be, can they salvage the carpet? As thats over a grand on its own.get them to strip the back panel and tape up the holes and do an extensive water test, if its not the seams it will be one of those grommets you can see once the bumper is removed.
  7. The ones in the body. If you open the tailgate then look at the black plastic trim that sits next to the lamp, this was blocked with 'rubbish' coming from the roof, and diverting the rain water directly into and over the rear body lamp, part numbers 64457a and 64458a on the attached diagram. Undo the Philips screw you can see at the top and carefully pull the trim towards you, then give it a good clean. As for the lamps they are fiddly but easy to remove with 3x 10mm nuts holding them in, once these are removed pull the lamp unit towards you and give the things a good clean and check the black gasket behind them onto the bodywork. I removed these and cleaned and then sealed with a black waterproof sealant.
  8. Thanks for the comments gents, just hope this helps someone without going to the lengths i had too. You cant buy new rear lamp gaskets separate, so after some advise i am going to seal mine with Buytl tape. Carpet is being dried out in a warm room at work for a few days, and the car has been thoroughly dried out inside. Cant wait to out it all back together again.... This is the area in the boot where the water was gathering, under the rear lamp. You can see where the water had been flowing down the "step" where the Hybrid battery is mounted
  9. Quick write up of a problem that may help others. Noticed our 2006 RX400h was very quick to condensate, especially when parked up and would take ages to disappear even with air conditioning on etc. The passenger side foot well carpet seemed damp, more so than other side. After removing kick panel trims and scuff plates i found my way under the carpet and discovered a pool of water! Made the major decision to remove the carpet from the vehicle as it was ringing wet and i wanted to discover where the water was coming from. After four hours having removed all the seats and centre console box, i was finally in a position to remove the carpet. What i found was shocking (see photos) There were pools of water everywhere, right by wiring and electrical components! After a mammoth drying out session, i began water testing to see where the water was coming from, sunroof drains were working fine, no blockage there, window seals all good etc etc. Then i removed the rear parcel tray/organizer in the rear boot. There was a lake just under the nearside lamp....... which was obviously moving forward past the hybrid battery into the floor wells. On inspection of the rear lamp, it seemed the water was running down the tailgate past the lamp gasket into the vehicle! A good clean up and some sealant round the gasket, as good as new with no water ingress. So if you have water under the front footwells, you might want to check the rear lamps first!!!
  10. The plastic cover is available separately, any Toyota or Lexus dealer can get one see attached from toyodiy, your colour code may be different so check first
  11. Been told its something to do with the power to the inverter itself? To be honest, if you have a letter and you are worried about it go in to your dealer and get them to book it in asap, all dealers can get parts now and should of had training (or at least watched the video!)
  12. Two kids in the back and a border collie in the boot (plus luggage), 600 odd miles holiday trip to north Devon, not a murmur from kids or dog! was amazing car just soaked it up. average mpg was 31.9, thats motorway down there and back plus all the b roads and hills around Devon, was well impressed
  13. MIne has been done today, so if you are worried i would push your dealer they do have the knowledge and tools!
  14. You could use a Toyota dealer, but believe it or not they are separate from each other, support for Lexus is not offered to Toyota dealers and there is a lot of parts that Toyota dealers cannot get as its Lexus only, for instance can get front discs from Toyota but the pads its Lexus only!!
  15. Some dealers are more "switched on" than others, i called my local one to be told "oh just wait for the letter, we still don't have parts etc etc" (didn't even take my name or number, their loss) so i called a friend in a dealer an hour away who booked me in there and then with a loan car for two days, its actually in the benefit of the dealer to get the recalls done as they get paid obviously for labour and parts but also the loan car! So its really down to the individual to either wait or try another accommodating dealer
  16. It will take a couple of weeks before they have parts, and tooling required and technical details for actually doing the work, then the letters will be send out in stages, so best advise is to sit tight you will get it done! I'm keeping an eye and let you know when anything else is released
  17. Kalpesh i wouldn't worry. we took our RX around north Devon on holiday, a good 700 miles or so, she never missed a beat! (up and down porlock hill was fun) This is a preventative matter that Lexus are going to fix, i think its a good thing! they are still looking after "older" vehicles Enjoy it!
  18. There was a older recall for the inverter, this is a new one, released today, dealers are aware of it but not what it consists of, as in what components are replaced and what sort of time scale
  19. Lexus have issued another recall for the Lexus Rx400h "Lexus has announced a recall today for some of its RX 400h models to correct a potential problem in the intelligent power module – an electronic component located in the hybrid system’s inverter. Following its extensive research, prompted by field reports from around the world, it has determined high temperatures generated in the inverter may result in damage to the module’s transistors. The recall concerns RX 400h manufactured between September 2004 and December 2008. Models built after this date are not affected; likewise there is no issue with the current RX 450h" Check your vehicle here... http://www.lexus.co.uk/owners/reference-library/#/RecallInformation
  20. Have a look at the attached Toyota/Lexus troubleshooting guide may point you in the right direction, depending on what year the RX is of course ICE trouble shootguide ATM 000 004-0-eng.pdf
  21. Dont think we got anything to worry about for the foreseeable future yet, the genuine parts are readily available, even if they have to come from Japan it only takes a couple of weeks. I work at a Toyota dealer and can still get parts for 1987 MR2's and even older Corolla's and Hilux. What does bug me is that i can get say front pads from Toyota for my RX but cant get the rear's as they are "lexus only" (and the parts turn up in Toyota packaging)
  22. Recently installed a GROM in my 2006 Rx400h, found it easy to install and simple to control, plus everything else works, steering wheel controls etc got mine direct from carputer-shop.com who were very prompt with delivery
  23. Must admit i have found it to be "temperamental" at the best, and the sound through the headphones is a pain still working on that!
  24. If you got the ICE with the DVD screens in the headrests and DVD player under the driver seat, then the owners manual is still available, part number PZ420-E8370-64. I recently bought a RX400h and had exactly the same problem, and got one from a Toyota dealer
  25. Very Nice! B) Would love to know how and what did you use to wrap it as really need to do mine as its a bit scratched from previous owner!
