  1. You don't have to go to Lexus to get a good job done. Some tyre specialists will have the correct equipment, often the American made Hunter digital alingment system. In fact, as the kit is so expensive some Lexus dealers won't have the equipment themselves and will take your car to a specialist who does have the equipment. I recently had a full four wheel alignment carried out by SE Tyres in Tunbridge Wells using the Hunter digital alignment and the mechanic was kind enough to let me watch the whole of the process. The care and attention to detail was most impressive. It's not a job that can be rushed as often an adjustment in one plane will have the effect of changing the wheel alingement in another plane. I was charged £25.00 for the check and then there is another £75.00 if any adjustments need to be done. The whole job took nearly one and a half hours. No connection other than a very satisfied customer.
  2. Purchased a 2008 RX400h SE-L about two months ago. It replaced a Porsche Boxster S---yes I know it's a bit different but with my eldest daughter expecting twins the Porsche was hardly prctical. I have done around 2800 miles since purchase. My other vehicle is a BMW 335D Coupe. I would make the following comments: Navigation system--interface feels a bit "clunky" compared with the BMW, although I suppose I will get used to it. I really like the screen display. Not being able to amend your destination whilst on the move is a pain. Steering and handling--very good for a car of its size and weight. I push up the tyre pressures to 35psi if I am off on a fully loaded high speed continental trip. Brakes--again take a bit of getting used to. They are very light and hitting them too hard will bring you to a very rapid stop, again I will probably get used to them. Sound system--Good but why Lexus didn't fit an Ipod connector is beyond me. Telephone system---I doesn't seem to want to download my address book from my Blackberry. Not a great problme as I have loaded names and numbers onto the speed dial--there is space for 30 numbers. Advantage of this is that you can easily use them whilst you are on the move. Economy--Just returned from a 1500 mile trip to France. Vehicle was crammed full of luggage (I do believe that the amount of stuff that my wife packs is directly related to the available space in the vehicle) Spent a large proportion of the time on the Autoroutes with the cruise control set at 130kph true, showing around 85 mph on the speedo. Averaged 29 .7 mpg which I think is good for a vehicle of this size. When I collected the car the previous owner had not reset the fuel computer and it showed 30.7mpg over the previous 6300 miles. Under normal useage I seem to average around 32/33 mpg but the fuel consumption figures are very susceptible to a heavy right foot. Quality--everything has a nice fit and finish and needless to say there has absolutely nothing wrong with the car since I purchased it. What do I really like: The overall ride---it does feel more like an expensive saloon that a "jiggly" old four wheel drive The silence when you are driving on batteries alone. Power tail gate The way it tends to make me drive slower and more concious of fuel economy. If you have a good dealer fairly close to you arrange for an extended test drive. Wait until you can find the exact colour combination that you want. I wanted a Black SE-L with light beige leather and had five Lexus dealers looking for the car that met my requirements. Full marks to Lexus Croydon for sourcing the car. Make sure that you check out the rear passenger compartment properly as a high proportion of the cars that I looked at were badly scuffed in the back from kids climbing in and out and kicking the seats. Best of luck in your search.
  3. I have a 2008 RX400h fitted with the 18 X 7 inch wheels. I am looking to buy a spare set of wheels for use with winter tyres and have been offered a set of 17in inch wheels off a Lexus RX300. Can anyone let me know if they would fit on my RX400h? Thanks in advance for your help
  4. Have a look in the USA section of this web-site under "Hybrid section" I assume that the USA Navigation system is pretty much the same as the UK one. The whole of thandbook is here---unfortunately it's in lots of little sections so you will have to rummage around to find it. Try this http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=26453
  5. Yes, I know that the weather is far too warm to be thinking about fitting winter tyres, but,,,,,,can anyone tell me if the RX300 18 wheels will fit a 2008 RX400h? I don't want the hassle of changing the actual tyres onto the OEM wheels so I am on the lookout for a spare set of wheels. There seems to be a better chance of getting wheels from a RX300 than for my own car, hence the question about interchangeability.
  6. Can anybody advise me if there is a removable "swan neck" type of tow bar fitment that does not involve cutting the bumper?
  7. Thanks everyone for all of your help----I have decided to pass on this one. I would always have a nagging doubt in the back of my mind that someone else would pick up on the gap in the service history when I came to dispose of the car. As Parthiban has pointed out, it's not so much of a bargain that I need to snap it up. "Plenty more fish in the sea" and I shall keep looking until the right one comes up.
  8. Details are RX400h SE-L First registered 30/03/07. Black, light grey leather inside, 25492 on the clock. Slight scuff to rear bumper which will be repaired by the dealer. Two brand new front tyres. Immaculate inside other than a slight mark to glove box, which again the dealer says he will fix. Dealer has come down to £27,250 plus the extras mentioned in my earlier email. Has offered me the same part-ex on my existing vehicle as two other Lexus dealers, and I consider the part-ex to be a fair price. I would have bought it on the spot if it hadn't been for the missing service history Although I would like to change my vehicle now I'm not desperate and could easily hold off for a time.
  9. About to buy a March 2007 RX400h SE-L from a Lexus dealer. One owner from new, but a gap in the service record. Serviced at 4583 miles in January of 2008 and then nothing until May 2010 at 25,000 miles. Car is a "nice one", drives fine and the dealer has offered me a full years Lexus warranty. I'm concerned that when I come to sell the vehicle in around three yeard time I will get screwed on the part exchange price. In compensation the dealer has come in a thousand pounds on the price and offered me a new sat-nav disc and the "Lexus protection package--alloy wheel insurance, tyre insurance, gap insurance and exterior and interior sealant free for the next three years. I'm tempted but concerned about the gap in the service history---should I walk away and look for another one?
