  1. I too thought about putting an "old geezer" no my insurance but as I am 74 and my wife is 76 it's getting quite difficult to find any friends who qualify.
  2. A link to The Money Saving Expert web site guiding you as to how to get the best deal on car insurance https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/insurance/car-insurance/#buying
  3. I bought a pair of these when they were on offer some time ago---a great product and great value
  4. Could it be that the vehicle previously had a personalised registration number and that the MOT history would be shown under that number?
  5. Having replaced a stolen cat with a straight through pipe I cannot detect any difference in noise or fuel economy
  6. Another vote for the Lidl bars---I purchased a pair some years ago when they were in store. Extremely well made and a bargain.
  7. Try fitting one of these---evidently it's not illegal in South Africa, but i am not sure how the UK authorities would view it.
  8. Just received the following email from Lexus UK We've extended our hybrid battery cover, so you can now stay protected for up to 15 years. Book a Hybrid Health Check and your battery will be covered for an extra 12 months or 10,000 miles* – whichever comes first. We'll do this every time your battery is checked, for up to 15 years. It's complimentary as part of any Lexus service, or £59 if you're between services. As part of the process, our technicians will perform a detailed assessment of your battery and you'll receive a report on your system's health status.
  9. I don't think that you will have any problems not changing the plugs at exactly 120,000 miles, especially as you are only doing circa 6,000 miles per annum. It might, however, reflect on the price that you get when you trade it in.
  10. It's misnamed as a Solar Battery CHARGER---I very much doubt that it will actually charge a flat battery but what it will do is maintain it with a trickle charge. See below for a review: Solar Car Battery Charger The blue flashing LED light will flash as soon as it is the view of a bright light or sunlight, this doesn't specifically mean it is charging. It just means that it is ready to charge when plugged in in its current position in the sun. Just like above, this solar battery charger is simple to use, we took our car down to our parents and left it there for just over 2 weeks whilst we went on holiday. We left the solar panel on the dashboard facing south and went on our way. We returned two weeks later, made sure to unplug it all before we started the car and it worked perfectly. The car started first time and our battery seemed to be fully charged. This was in late summer though and there had been decent weather in the time we were away. This may not be so good in winter and you'd need optimal sunlight for it to work perfectly and as expected. Important Notice Make sure to remove and disconnect from the connector or battery before starting your car. Pros Trickle charges a 12V battery while parked Very simple product, easy to use, just plug it in and let it charge whilst you are away Great price Charges in sunlight, even in the UK, from both natural and indoor lights Cons Make sure you don't leave it plugged in whilst you start your car, you will blow some fuses You have to access your (E)OBD socket, easy in some cars, harder in others Verdict An awesome car car product, if you are away for a while, it is perfect to keep your cars battery charged, maintained and topped up for the duration of your stay. The only downside is you have to find the OBD connector,
  11. Why not invest £25.00 in one of these? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/264728750368
  12. Perhaps you could find a friendly car thief----I am sure that they would be able to get into your car in seconds
  13. A "straight through" exhaust pipe in place of the underbody catalytic converter will not cause any problems with the vehicle and it will be difficult to hear any increased exhaust noise. It still has the two other catalytic converters on it up near the exhaust manifold. (these are unlikely to be stolen as access is so difficult.) You might have a problem with an MOT, depending on whether or not the tester is an "understanding" individual. It won't fail the emissions test as Hybrids are not check for emissions. If you want to send me a private message at raymondcoole at gmail dot com I can point you in the direction of a highly regarded Lexus Specialist in Kent who will do the work for you.
  14. GX64SXU shows up on the Govt's MOT History page as a Ford Torneo---not a Lexus
  15. The Range Rover has clever system whereby the front seat passenger can see the dvd being played on the front screen but the driver cannot see World first 'dual view' screen technology The 2010 Range Rover is the first to feature 'dual view' infotainment touch screen technology. The display allows the driver and passenger to view completely different images simultaneously. This means that the passenger can enjoy a DVD movie while the driver follows navigation instructions, all on the same screen. The system uses patented Parallax Barrier technology to alternately hide and reveal columns of pixels to the left and right hand views of the screen.
  16. If your battery was down to 6 volts then i fear that it may be beyond redemption and that new battery may be required
  17. Never been able to do this-----as you now have plenty of time on your hands remove wheel and push out centre cap from the back of the wheel
  18. Problem solved---although I don't know what the problem was. Have gone for a couple of drives this morning and the noise from the rear offside has disappeared. I have come to the conclusion that it may have been a piece of debris that was somehow lodged in the wheel/brake area. Thanks everyone for their help and suggestions
  19. Thanks everyone for your responses---I will certainly look into the bushes but i am confused as the clunking noise is definitely related to the speed of the rotation of the wheel.
  20. Some thoughts from the assembled expertise would be welcome. 2008 Rx400h with 97,000 miles, always regularly maintained. Noticed a "clunking noise" emanating from the rear offside wheel area yesterday, Characteristics are as follows. Only makes a noise when vehicle is coasting on the over run Frequency of the noise is speed related so it is obviously related to the rotation of the wheel No noise when accelerating or driving normally While on over run the noise stops as soon as brake are operated, even lightly New callipers, discs, pads, parking brake shoes and parking brake cables were fitted around 15 months ago. All thoughts are welcome before I start taking things apart .
  21. Palladium now more expensive than gold-----see the following article from the BBC https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-51171391
  22. Sticking slide pins on the rear callipers are a common problem. Not normally a need to replace the entire callipers at a not inconsiderable cost---just remove the slide pins, clean and apply some new grease.. If the slide pins are too far gone you can but them off Ebay for a very reasonable price https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-Rear-Brake-Caliper-Slide-Pin-47814-48050-Fits-Lexus-RX330-RX350-RX400/273945308834?fits=Car+Make%3ALexus%7CModel%3ARX&epid=1216788949&hash=item3fc869aea2:g:dD0AAOSwD~Fbt3MS Whilst you are at it probably worthwhile fitting new rubber end caps as well https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GENUINE-BRAKE-CALIPER-SLIDE-PIN-DUST-BOOT-COVER-TOYOTA-CAMRY-LEXUS-RX-4777541030/293040972438?fits=Car+Make%3ALexus%7CModel%3ARX&epid=1516739201&hash=item443a9a6296:g:Of4AAOSwT6pVoSQS Hope this helps
  23. A cheaper option would be to look on eBay https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2380057.m570.l1311.R1.TR6.TRC0.A0.H0.Xlexus+sat+.TRS0&_nkw=lexus+sat+nav+disc&_sacat=0
  24. These were the washer jets that fitted my Rx400h . Shows what I mean by "right angled jets https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PAIR-UNIVERSAL-WINDSCREEN-WASHER-TWIN-JET-ANGLED-INLET-PUSH-FITTING-4MM-WWY3/151834720862?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649
